Marriage Counseling
Hi everyone! I've been debating whether or not to do the marriage counseling or pay the fee instead. I've talked to a few people who loved the experience and said they learned new things about each other they hadn't known before. My initial reaction of course was, "I don't need counseling", but I've been told a lot of people feel this way, and actually got something out of it. I was just curious what those of you who have gone through this, what you thought about your experience.
Thank you!

I think it was a good experience for us, I think that everyone would benefit somewhat from it, so I would take it just because. That and it saves you money

lol- you can pay a fee and get out of it?! That's crazy!!
Honestly- we didn't want to go, but we ended up liking it. It gave us some perspective on our relationship. We really did get a lit out of it.

I think the fee vs. counseling thing must vary by where you are and whether you're getting married in certain churches or not. I've never heard of it, but I don't think VA requires counseling. The Episcopal church does, however, and you can't just pay them off.
That said, we were not looking forward to the required counseling, especially DH, and we ended up get quite a bit out of it. Plus the priest helped us create our ceremony, which ended up being such a bonding experience for us--really, sorry if that's cheesey--and it really made our ceremony SO much more personal than I think we could have managed on our own without some guidance. And every one commented on our ceremony.

I was nervous at first, but fh and I are both glad we took it! There are a lot of things to talk about. It was a huge benefit!
You might even enjoy it like we did!
