I'm so excited right now. I've been looking forever for a photographer that was within our budget. Photos mean a lot to me, but it wasn't something that I had to have super high on the list. So I was flipping thru the pictures of my friends wedding that was in May and altho you can tell the pictures are semi-professional (as in the woman does it on the side, but does quite a few weddings) they were still really good. They had really good poses, and she did some really neat things with them. So I called her on a whim not knowing how much she charged and get this, for 700-800 (depending on what I want) I get her most of the day, and then she signs me the rights to my photos, all of them! When I talked to her on the phone she told me that she thinks it's a crock that photographers keep the rights because she has no clue (other than a portfollio) what they have to do with those photos. Signing over the rights is no question with her, she does it for everyone. I couldn't help but thinking that 700-800 bucks was a great deal!!!!! We are meeting with her on August 2nd. I'm trying to think of good questions to ask, since I know she's not a "professional." She's bringing a portfollio of 2 other weddings for us to flip thru. So i'm really excited, between the FG dress shopping this weekend, scheduling the photographer and trying on my dress again on Saturday, it's all really starting to sink in.

That's awesome! Ours did the same thing because she was just starting out on her own. She had worked for someone else for years, and was really horrified at the amount charged for their services, and then of course paying for individual photos and books on top of that.

Definitely hire her! As for questions, you can find a list on the main Pash site I believe. I'll see if I can find it...

Make sure you tell her if you want any specific shots.

For example, for my brothers wedding, they wanted the photographer to have random fun shots of people and shots of the bridal party goofing off. The photographer only had 3-4 fun shots, when they actually wanted more, but they assumed somewhere along the lines, he'd do it.

Yes, some people provide the photographer with a list of shots and poses they want and others leave it up to the photographer to take charge. It comes down to your vision and trust of the photographer. The more trust you have in the photographer's ability to deliver what you envision, then the more you'll let the professional do their thing.

One more thing off the list.
