Flower Girl Baskets
Materials:
- Small wire frame basket (I bought easter baskets from Michaels on sale)
- Spool of 1/4" to 1/2" white ribbon
- Square of white satin (or other similar material)
- White thread
- Sewing needle
- Super Glue (or fabric glue)
Instructions:
If there is material already on the basket, cut away all the material to leave the wire frame bare.
(1) Tie one end of the spool of ribbon around the base of the handle, so when covered with material the knot will be covered. Add a little super glue or fabric glue to hold the knot together and in place.
(2) Wind the ribbon tightly around the handle of the basket, overlapping the ribbon so none of the handle shows through. When it gets to the other end, make sure the ribbon is taut and tie another knot (that will be covered by fabric) and secure it with glue.
(3) Place the center of the square of fabric at the bottom of the basket. Sew the center of the fabric to the base of the wire basket. Make sure the fabric is sewed all the way around and can withstand the fabric being pulled up and over the edge of the basket.
(4) Gently drape and fold the fabric up and over the sides of the basket. Do not pull taut; fold the excess fabric over itself to create a simple yet elegant look.
(5) Cut the edges of the fabric so the edges just reach the bottom underneath of the basket. Sew the ends of the fabric down on the bottom of the basket, ensuring that you don't pull the fabric taut.
(6) Congratulations! The basket is finished!
