Default Announcing Engagement
My fiancee and I were engaged in September of 2006. We did not formally announce our engagement, just by word of mouth to some of our friends, and we did not set a wedding date. Things were not going so well so we called off the "wedding" (of which no planning had been done) and broke up. Fortunately, we have gotten back together and our time apart made us realize many things. We are now planning on getting married and have just become engaged again...is it appropriate for us to announce our engagement now?

Yes, it's perfectly fine to do a formal announcement now, and no explanations are needed about your soul-searching time apart. This is a fresh start for the two of you, so it's terrific to share your engagement excitement with all of your friends and family. Enjoy!
