scratching chin picking out "the cake"

I just wanted to know how many of you had the input from the FH on the cake? For the hall that we picked, the cake comes with the package. They showed us some of the cakes and they all look great. In Feb we get to go to the hall and have a huge lunch! They will have all the food for us to sample and plus they will have the cakes for us to see and sample. I have a feeling that this will be hard for us to decide on one cake. I know for the invations...what he likes I dont...and what I like he does not.

Was it hard picking out the cake..or did you all agree on the cake at first?

Tom is pretty easy, he just wants one that tastes good. So far he has liked every style cake that I've looked at and mentioned I might want us to copy. But my personal taste isn't overly flowery or ultra-feminine, so it might be easier for us to agree.

LOL, I had almost no input from Josh on anything!! He wouldn't have cared if there hadn't been a cake at all! Me, mom, MIL, and SIL (MOH) all kinda looked at pics and put ideas together.

DH helped pick out the way I put the cakes together (I had 3 ways I liked best to stack or tier our cakes). DH also gave input that he thought each layer should be a different flavor as different people like different things but I had already planned various flavors of cake. I wanted a very simple design since I was the one frosting it while still preparing for every thing so I did that. We were only in the area the week before the ceremony (MIL did the prep work for us) so we had to finalize stuff before our big day.

We pretty much agreed right away. I had picked out a couple different photos from magazines that I really liked and showed them to him and we narrowed it down further, and then when I met with the cake lady she told me what she thought of them. With her help we decided on the one we went with. It was a group effort!

Flip a coin? Rock, paper, scissors?

Look at it as a learning experience on how you are going to handle diferences of opinion and how well you compromise. Pick your battles!

My FH and I seem to be on the same wavelength really. We are getting the cascading cake from the Wal Mart bakery. Not my ideal place to get a cake but it's easy and cheap and looks really nice! LOL

Money makes the world go around! LOL Mine is spinning pretty slowly these days!

XH helped me pick out the cake... that's about all he had a say in. He wasn't too enthusiastic about it either. I'm not sure of Jerry's feelings when it comes to be our wedding. He probably will just go with whatever I want.

My just says That would be great, on anything that I ask him. So the cake was decided by me, FMIL, my mom, and the cake lady. Matt has this whole "smile and nod" thing down. that is the only real answer I get from him.

We've not finalised our choice yet, (well, we've picked the shape & number of tiers and flavour) but we've still to finalise the decoration but I wasn't something simple & elegant. FH just vetoed a couple didn't say what he did like but was quite clear on what he didn't like! He *hated* the idea of stacked cupcakes so we're not going with that idea!

I guess I've been quite opinionated on most of the wedding choices so what he gets to pick from has always been narrowed down a lot. It's normally just the tiniest details I haven't already decided & I guess there isn't much room for an opinion on those! I always ask just in case though... You never know what he might feel strongly about!

That was easy for us. Our reception place included a free cake from "their" bakery. We went to that bakery and looked through their book and both fell in love with the same cake. Also, it had three tiers and they could do each tier differently, so we threw out some favorite cake/filling combos and picked three that would work.

well I do not think it will be as hard as I thought. FH and I were looking at some pictures of cakes and we agreed on a cake!! I let him tell me what he liked and never let him know what I liked till trhe end. I guess this will fun picking out flavors and fillings!!!!

DH and I only like one flavor of cake so we were good to go on that. We picked the design together.

We actually tasted one today that was soooo yummy -- it was raspberry fruit with champagne mousse...mmmmmm. Loved it. Tom liked it, too.

I'm so jealous! We never get fillings like you all seem to get! We have the choice (generally) of plain buttercream in whatever-flavoured sponge or fruit cake with no filling! Now I love wedding cake, the really rich, matured, brandy soaked fruit cake but I wouldn't mind testing out some of your mocha-mousse-filled-chocolate-dream-cake

My FH also really doesn't care for most of the planning details. So I can't imagine that it will be an issue when I go.

Is it possible to get 1/2 the cake one filling, and 1/2 the cake another? There are lots of places that have no problem with that.

FH and I have already decided on cake flavors. We still need to finalize our decoration. We looked at pictures and we pretty much agree on something very simple and elegant. We liked a lot of the same stuff, but FH was vocal about stuff that he didn't like when I was only lukewarm about it. I'm sure it won't be too hard to pick out.

Yes, you can do different flavors for different layers as long as your outside can be the same. This is my experience with making cakes. I had chocolate frosting in the middle of one of my cake and the other 2 were white buttercream. My friend had 2 flavors. It would of been 3 but I changed my mind when doing it since I was traveling. You probably will have to pay more for that though.
