Does location have to determine theme?
All along through our planning, we've been wanting a beach themed wedding... casual, breezy, with shades of teal and bright blues... And all along, we've been looking at beach/oceanfront locations.
However, we looked (just online) at a country club last night that we're both familiar with. It's only a mile or so from the beach, but it's a tradtitional country club setting. They have beautiful grounds for an ourdoor wedding...
So my question is, does the location HAVE to determine the theme (i.e. should we switch to more of a garden theme if we have it at a CC like this), or could we still pull off a beachy theme at a venue like that?

I dont think you need to change your theme hunni, just cos of the venu. Alot of the Uk brides i work with have all kinds of themes that dont go with the venu, like beach themes in London or English rose in Birmingham.
I think you should go with what you want and not what you think you should have.

I don't think that the location of the reception/ceremony should alter your theme at all. You said that altho it's a traditional club setting you are only a short distance from the beach. I think you should do what you want no matter where you are.

You can still have a beach theme... you can work seashells into the decor (if that's the type of beach theme you're going for), or use Gerbia daisies if you're going tropical... I did lots of DIY stuff for our beach-themed wedding, so let me know if you need any ideas.

Well once we get closer to (and determine for sure we're going the beach route) I may just hit ya up for some help! thank you!!
(and even if we DON'T go beach theme... my alternate, which is a vibrant garden theme, would have lots of gerberas, so I might need some tips from you anyway!)
thanks!

I agree, go with whatever theme you want, wherever you have it. I've seen a "Christmas in July" theme (just what and when it sounded like) and a friend of a friend had a beachy wedding in Kansas because they wanted to have a destination wedding and couldn't, so they brought the destination to them! I didn't go, but my friend said it was a lot of fun and the decor didn't seem weird at all.

It's totally up to you.
We got married on the beach. Our invites (message in a bottle) and wed page had a beachy theme to them. We did a sand blending ceremony that involved sand from the beach we were married on.
Other than that, our reception did not have any beach theme to it. It was navy, lt. blue and silver.

OHHHH, do you have a link to your photos? I'd love to see that color combo.... there's a couple different ways we can go with the beach theme. The more nautical (which blue/silver would lend itself well to), or the more tropical (brigher colors, palm trees, etc....). So I'm exploring all options.

Speaking of colors, you could also go with varying shades of blue and a tan/sand color. Or blues and white. Beach theme leaves so many possibilities!

That's where I was headed initially... I wanted just sky blue, sand and white... but then I ran across multiple mags featuring shades of turquoise with chartreuse... sounds odd, but it's GORGEOUS together. I showed it to FH, and HE loved it, so I think that's what we're going with.... (he wasn't as wowed by my initial choices)... still, I'm always open to suggestions!

I loooove turquoise and chartreuse! I almost picked those, but there wasn't much available in chartreuse.
