Default Lipstick

This is bouncing off the lip stain thread, i didnt want to hijack that thread.

My question is, i love wearing lipstick, nothing dramatic, just nude/brownish tones, just to give my lips a little color. The problem is, the lipstick and lipliners all dry out my lips so i avoid wearing anything altogether, unless its a special occassion and i hate the "heavy" feeling of wearing chapstick. Is there anything you recommend?

I currently use:

Lancome Bronzelle lipliner

Lancome Creme de Maron lipstick.

I've also used Clinique's Pure Posh and that dries out my lips too. Any suggestions?

If I go with a tint, how do you pick a good color without making your lips look like you ate cherry flavored candy?

Hi Shaks!
I know what you mean about the drying effects of lipstick. I have a couple of suggestions for you.

1) Moisturizing Lipsticks
One of my favorites is OPI lipcolors. They are sheer, moisturizing, and come in a variety of colors. Unfortunately, you do have to touch them up because of thier moisturizing nature. (You can find them at www.aveyou.com)

I also really like Garden Botanika's lipsticks as they are enriched with shea butter, avocado oil and Vitamin E. (www.ulta.com)

Studio Gears Luxury Lipstick is also a great product as it contains spheres of mega-moisturizer hyaluronic acid (this ingredient binds moisture to the lips) and folic acid, a vitamin B derivative that actually plumps your lips. (www.ulta.com)

2) Lipglosses

These days, you can get lipglosses in a variety of formulations. They have some that are sheer, opaque, metallic, shimmery, glittery and anything in between. The benefit of glosses is that they will constantly keep your lips hydrated and smooth. Try looking for ones that are like liquid lipcolor, as they tend to look more like moisturizing lipstick. Ones to look out for are:

*NARS lipgloss and NARS lip lacquer (www.sephora.com)
*Dior Addict Ultra Gloss (www.sephora.com)
*Smashbox lipgloss (www.sephora.com)
*Bourjois 3D effet lipgloss (www.sephora.com)

In regards to your question about lipstains, not all lipstains are red. There are brown ones, pink ones, plum ones, etc. For example, NARS makes a lipstain gloss in Pampa that is a nutmeg brown (www.sephora.com). Laura Geller sells one in her Lip Stay line that is called Pout which is a caramel colored stain(www.sephora.com). Nixie cosmetics also makes some in the brown family named Autumn, Butterscotch, Cinnamon, Hush, and Spice it Up (www.nixiecosmetics.com) So you see, lipstains come in all colors instead of just red

Feel free to ask any other questions on the subject of lips, as I feel this is the most difficult cosmetic item to "love". It takes so many trial and error trips to the stores to find a color and consistency that works for you.

If you're looking for something drugstore brand, Maybelline has good moisturizing lipsticks and lip stains. When I'm in court and can't bring my makeup with me, I wear the Superstay lipcolour, which does actually last for the 16 hours it says it does. If it can last through my reporting day, it can last through anything.
Another good lipstick with moisture is Shiseido, but I don't know if you have that in the US.

Hi Munchkin,
we do have Shishiedo here...which lipstick in particular is this?? I am eager to find new items to offer brides. If you love it, then I should try it out!

Speaking of drug store brands, is there a trick on choosing the right color? Everytime i've bought lipstick from drugstores, they've come out too red or too nude.
Thats why i go to the makeup counter because they'll let you try it, but that can become costly as well.

Always ask a cosmetician for help, especially with lipstick. I don't know about other stores, but the one I work for has testers for each lipstick so that you can see the colour. I'm surprised that the ones you have don't. They may have them behind the counters though.
BridalMUA, I will have to look when I get to work tomorrow. We just got them in, so I can't remember which one it is off the top of my head.

if you go to a CVS or a Walgreens, they have a 100% guarantee on their cosmetics...so if you buy something and don't like it, you can return it.
