Default Nail help

I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not:

Lately my nails (on my index and middle fingers) have started curving under. Like they come out straight from my finger about 1/4 inch, and then take almost a 90-degree turn down, mainly on the "inside" of the finger. They've never done this before. (They're short now, but I can take a pic when they get longer if you'd like.)

I haven't changed my nail routine lately - which only consists of cutting and filing them when needed; nor have ai drastically changed my diet or anything. Do you have any idea what may be causing this? What can I do to grow healthy STRAIGHT nails for my wedding?

Hello Julz!
I haven't ever heard of just two nails growing downward, so I googled your inquiry, and this is what I found :

"Downward curving nail ends may denote heart, liver, or lung / respiratory problems."

I don't want to alarm you, because:

1) This may not be the case at all, and it could just be a vitamin deficiency or high levels of stress due to the wedding planning.

2) Just because a few websites say the same thing, you can't always trust what you see on the internet.

In any case, it says to refer to a dermatologist, and since you might already go to one for your skin, you could also ask about your nails. I am very interested in what he or she might have to say. I hope for the best, and look forward to an update. Good luck, and best wishes!

Julz, mine do that too! Mine have always done it, but lately it's gotten MUCH worse, especially on my pointer and middle fingers. Seriously, if I look at my nail from the side, it looks like I've jammed my nail up against something. I definitely want to know what you find out from the dermatologist!!!

I have one nail on my right hand (middle finger) that does the same thing...after it gets so long it just looks bent and it drives me nuts. I also have no idea what causes mine.

Maybe it's the way we use our fingers?

I also have a nail on my left hand that does the same thing, but it's because the nail was ripped off in a bicycle accident when I was a kid. Ouch.

I don't know if there's a way to reshape the nail growth before it gets to that point, but it may be a good idea to see a dermatologist.

Well, luckily I just saw my endocrinologist and got a bunch of blood work done... and while he did find some "issues," it was nothing that would indicate heart, lung, or kidney problems...

I just realized that my nails have only been doing this since I started using the green tea hand lotion... so maybe it's related? Man, I LOVE that lotion! my hands have never been so consistently soft and it doesn't wash off! I hope it's not the reason my nails are doing this.

Will definitely ask the dermo and tell you what he says!
