Default Invitation wording

Is it appropriate to use the title 'Captain' for an airline captain on our daughter's wedding invitation, or should we stick with 'Mr.'? My husband feels that this title, because it is non-military, should not be used in formal invitations.

Great question! Some people are very attached to their titles, so the best solution is to give the Captain a call and ask him how he'd like to be titled on the invitation. He'll *love* it that you're honoring his wishes.

Is the "Captain" one of the groom's parents (i.e. it would be in the wording of the invitation) or someone you are sending an invitation to?

Sharon - should she call for either? What if it is someone you don't know very well?

I think she's asking about the actual invitation.....not the addressing of the invitation.... as her husband is the brides father....example:
Captain and Mrs So and So
request your presence at the marriage of their daughter

My apologies! I responded without coffee in my system

Since this is for the wedding invitation, the choice of title is up for your husband to decide. According to etiquette rules, the title of captain is usually reserved for military rank...although it has been used by choice in today's very personalized weddings, just as some parents will use their 'Esquire' title as a matter of personal choice.

So the short answer is that there is no strict etiquette rule about airline captains, so you can go with whatever works best for you.
