Edwin McCain playing for wedding
I have an unusual question. We are going to get Edwin McCain to play for our daughter's wedding... her favorite songs in the world are I'll Be and I Could Not Ask For More. We got so excited when we found out this on www.edwinmccainmusic.com/weddings.htm. What fun this will be to surprise her AT THE MOMENT HE PLAYS!
My question:
If you hire a celebrity to sing at a wedding and/or reception, do you need to hire another band to fill the rest of the evening? Seems it would be necessary to have music all evening, but then, how do you follow Edwin McCain???
Thanks!

Never heard of him, but it's definitely posted in the wrong area.

While having a celebrity perform may seem like a hard act to follow, it does not discount the entertainment you have chosen for the rest of the reception.
The music to follow will still sound just as good, big name performance or not.

I was kinda wonderin the same thing... I mean I know he doesn't get much commercial radio play, but as far as I know, he's very successful just as a songwriter alone... Hmmmph... *shrug*

I still think this is spam, but I'd also have to say yes, you need to provide entertainment for the rest of the night.
As far as McCain...I couldn't have told you his name, but "I'll Be" is one of my all-time favorite songs. I don't know why he'd want to play any old wedding, though. And I'm sure it isn't cheap.

No, not spam. I do love his music, and think it's cool though that we have the chance to get him to play. We go to lots of his concerts. He is a daddy now of 2 little ones... about 2 years old. I know he loves playing weddings... and he's cut way back on his tour schedule so he can be at home more. he bought a recording studio in his hometown in SC. He can play weddings here and there, do the recording studio and tour a little. I saw a film clip about him on the Greenville News where he talked about his studio and said he was going to start playing weddings. He also is big into the "pay back" thing and is offering some great deal to people wanting to record in a 1st class studio for a reduced price. I think it's cool that he wants to help others like that. But the wedding thing looks like a win/win thing to me. I didn't see it as a Joe Blow's wedding thing. I thought it was pretty smart actually. He gets paid to play for a little while at a wedding, why not? Again, win/win.
ANyway.... We will do it as long as we can afford it. This year is also our 30th anniversary, and we'd like to renew our vows. Maybe we can get him twice for a reduced price. I posted here because I thought some brides here would love to hear that he's available. I know I'd have loved to have him at MY wedding! Having him sing for our daughter's wedding is close, and renewal of our vows will be the next best thing.
I don't know yet if he just sings a few songs and leaves or whether he stays for the whole evening. But I'd think it's only for a few songs. That's why I wondered what would be good for the rest of the night. Maybe it's according to what you hire him for. IF we need more music to fill the evening ----- DJ Craig, what about hiring a DJ?
Thanks for the answers...

I would probably hire a DJ for the rest of the night. Or - have the DJ play during dinner, bring in the pro, and then go back to DJ music.

You sound like his publicist. And I still think you're a spammer.

Definitely - especially with a name like "Musickid". Most people who need help with their daughter's wedding don't name themselves after the stuff they're trying to sell or bring attention to.

Anybody remember on Wayne's World where the bouncer knows all about the guy's schedule, and Wayne says "That's funny, for a bouncer, he sure knows a lot..."
