So we *finally* found THE ring.....
Oh my oh my... what a long (and exhausting) road it's been. We searched high and low for the *perfect* ring, and I'm here to tell ya.... today we found it.
So far we'd hit all of the "mall" stores, a couple of local/independents, and then of course Jared's (which in truth is a stand-alone version of the mall stores, but they do admittedly have a great selection).
But today we decided to check out another local shop (one that's been in the area for 30+ years, and has a great reputation for service, as well as great custom work). Immediately we were impressed with their helpfulness and how friendly everyone was. Since we've looked at SO many rings, I know quite clearly what I like (and what I don't like). In addition, we decided to go slightly "different," in that I didn't want a diamond center stone, but rather a sapphire (FH's birthstone) flanked by diamonds.
(Now bear in mind, when we went to Jared's the other day and asked about this idea, while I was told "Sure, no problem, we can order you a loose sapphire," no one could give us ANY idea of cost, timeframe or anything!!)
This place was far different.... just based on my brief statements about what I like, the saleswoman immediately found a few settings that were EXACTLY my taste, as well as a sapphire & diamond ring they already had in-store that was almost the one.
But there was one setting I just really kept going back to.... it's a split-shank, micro-pave, 18K white gold setting with two round 1/4" diamonds flanking the center stone. It was gorgeous, but still hard to imagine exactly what it would look like with the actual sapphire in it.
Then she disappeared for a few moments, and came back with a loose stone of the perfect size (about a 7mm) loosely set into the ring.
I was quite literally in awe.... we both gasped when we saw it all put together like that (and then with a matching invisible set eternity band with it). I quite literally broke down in tears.... once I saw it on my hand, I knew it was, without a doubt, THE ring.
So, it's done.... FH will be picking it up in the next couple of weeks (they still need to set the stone, resize it, order the wedding band, etc.... not to mention, he wants to TRY to hold off and make it somewhat of a surprise), but we found it.... it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
(I felt like SUCH a goof, weeping in the middle of a jewelry store, but I know without a doubt that's the ring for me!)
And we DID take a picture of it on my camera phone, but it came out really fuzzy... so we'll just have to wait till it's actually on my finger!

That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you. And you shouldn't feel like a goof--if you were crying about it, you DEFINITELY made the right choice!

That is good news! I'm always jealous of you lucky ones that get colored stones. (I wanted a ruby, my birthstone, but I'm picky about them and don't like the pinkish ones so what I wanted was waaaaayyy out of our price range.) It sounds absolutely beautiful. Can't wait to see a picture!

Wow, that sounds gorgeous!! FH loves sapphires, so I honestly thought (and hoped!) that I'd get a ring with a sapphire on it, but no such luck.
Congrats!!

Here's the pics from my phone... very fuzzy (and my phone was casting a shadow on the ring) but you get the idea..... this is with one of the diamond bands (but I think we're going to order two bands, one for each side)
This pic shows a bit more of the detail on the side -- the split shank.

Just wait....you'll get it and be driving with your arm out of the window and you'll end up checking out your ring in your side mirror.
It's beautiful by the way.

That ring is beautiful!
I wanted an emerald in my ring (favorite stone), but according to every jeweler I talked to, they do not put emeralds in platinum settings. My heart was set on platinum more than it was set on emeralds.

Ohhh, yes, I certainly did. I still need to get photos of it in natural light (the color of the sapphire is spectacular, but in flash photos, it comes out almost black due to the shadows... )

Your ring is beautiful! We did the same thing....went to all of the chain stores...a couple of times, and after about three weeks of exhausting diamond-picking-outing, we settled on a small local store that has been around for over 75 years. The people were excellent and they remember our names whenever we stop in.
Be careful driving with that thing on, don't want to cause any accidents because you're staring at it and not the road!
You'll find that it will really come in handy when trying to ward off creepy guys at the gym
