Default It's My Wedding Too -- question 1 -- Emilie and Anthony's relationship

Why do you think that Emilie and Anthony were able to keep their relationship so strong during all of this stressful interference by the mothers? Emilie called Anthony a 'reformed mama's boy,' so how much of their relationship strength comes from the fact that he loves his mom, but he has an adult level of separation from her and a great loyalty to Emilie? [In most chick lit novels, the conflict is that the couple splits and reconsiders marrying. I wanted to stay away from the usual plot point and keep the couple strong so that it's all about the relationships with their moms.]

What would have happened if he was still too close with his clingy mother?

I'll start with the easier question, lol. If he was still too close with his mother, I don't think their relationship would have survived the chaos. He would have been more concerned with his mom rather than his fiancee.

I think Emilie and Anthony kept their relationship strong by remembering what the end goal was. They knew that they were going to be together and be married regardless, and focused (or tried to) on that.

Anthony being a "reformed mama's boy" also helped out I think. Thankfully he had grown up enough to have his own head about things, but I think he pulled a lot of strength from his mother's examples. He also saw how she treated his father as "second best" and that strengthed his resolve to make sure to let Emilie know that she was always his number one.
