Default Mascara - what's the rule?

I've been told that when you pull the brush out of the mascara, you shouldn't wipe any away, like roll it around the inside of the tube. It tends to make it a bit gummy though. Is that true, and if so why?

What should you do to get the excess off so that your lashes clump and the mascara won't clump in the tube itself. I use Revlon full-extend or something like that.

What I personally do (and I'm sure we all do it a little differently) is pull the wand out of the tube. I hate the gooey bit of mascara at the end, so If I have a cotton square or something, I will wipe that excess of the end so it doesn't go back into the tube. This will generally prevent clumping for the next time around since you aren't shoving a dallop of mascara from the end of the brush back into the tube.

you will generally have enough mascara on the wand for one coat for both eyes. If you want more, you wait for the first layer to dry a little first before putting another one on so they don't get "Tarantula" looking, unless that's the look you are going for.

When trying to get more mascara out of the tube, never pump the brush as that is trapping air inside the tube and then a whole host of bacteria will grow. Instead, swirl the wand inside the tube before pulling it out.

I hope I have answered your question. Other members might have tricks an tips they use that help them ( and you all are welcome to post those ideas here!)

Thanks! You've definitely answered my poorly worded question now that I re-read it in the light of day.

I'm a "pumper" so I will stop doing that. In fact I should probably buy a new tube.

I buy mascara more then anything else just because of the bacteria reason. That and I also believe the more air you 'pump' in the faster it dries it out. But that's just me. I just bought some the other day and it's "Lash extend" I think it's called. It has a plastic brush verses bristles. It's actually kind of cool. I think it's by Maybelline but not sure.

I've seen that advertised Mary. Maybe I'll give that a try the next time I venture out.
