Christmas Wedding
I am getting married December 22, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. I have waited 10 years for us to get married so I am very excited. My colors are red and white. I definately want a christmas wedding. Any ideas????? We are also trying to decide between NYC, Colorado and Canda for our honeymoon. Any suggestions? Anyone familiar with vendors in Tallahassee, FL?

Hi there, and welcome to Pash. Also, congrats on your engagement.
Your best bet is to do a search for "Christmas Theme" using the search feature. It's the "Search" link above with the drop down arrow. We've had lots of Xmas weddings and a lot of great ideas posted here.
I recommend honeymooning in NY, but I'm biased.

Welcome to Pash!
A Christmas wedding sounds lovely... and you can save $$$ on decorations, since most places will already be decorated.
And I lice in NYC, so I'm biased too... but you should see the Christmas lights on Fifth Ave. and see the window displays at Macy's! Also, there's ice skating at Rockerfeller Center.

There are SO MANY things you can do for a Christmas wedding! I had a "mildly" Christmas themed wedding--ivory and hunter green with touches of red, holly as a motif, ornaments for wedding favors. If you Google "Christmas wedding" or "holiday wedding" you'll get a ton of hits, from flowers to cake ideas to decor. Once you have a few ideas of what you'd like it will be easier for us to give ideas and opinions, because it's just too much right now!
Welcome to Pash!!

This is a picture of my dress. Of course, I am kinda bummed. I did not find out until after I bought it that it is recommended for plus sizes and I am a size 6. (I hope I am posting pics the right way. Can't just copy and paste)
Here are pictures of the 2 bouquets I am trying to chose between.

I'm not doing a Christmas theme for my wedding, so in that part I can't help, but follow Heather's suggestion and you will find lots of info.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I basically want the traditional christmas looking feel. White candles, green garland, red bows (or in this case roses), etc.....) I am having wreaths with candles in the middle as the centerpieces. I would also like small wreaths in place of pew bows. I am trying to think of some Christmassy song to walk down the isle to (I hate the traditional Here Comes the Bride). I am trying to keep costs down. My budget is $10,000, but my reception is at The Governor's Club (I have the Plantation Room, dining Room, Balcony, and parlour)
which will cost approximately $6000 and my church is going to cost $600.
I have the church, reception and string quartet confirmed. I keep thinking I am forgetting the small details (I am more a big picture person and not a detail oriented person). What things do you remember from other's weddings?

I bet you could find an accoustic version of "White Christmas" I think it'd be slow enough, and lovely enough to walk down the aisle too! And even if it didn't snow you'd still be bringing the white bit
ETA: I tend to remember the meal, the entertainment and of course the bride!
Unless the cake is stunning (or seriously awful ) I don't tend to remember it... Same for what the BMs/FGs wear... I'd never remember their cars, the first dance song, and probably not the favours either...
To be honest most of my attention is always on the bride, the ceremony & the reception.
I do remember centre pieces, but you spend a long time at the table looking at them... And I always remember the last dance but that is such a huge part of the day over here It's always really emotional!
It's worth asking around to see what everyone loved best about their own weddings, that gave me quite a few ideas!

I want to say welcome and congratulations!!!
Or you could walk to O Holy night. I am not very religious but if you find it with the right singer oh man goose bumps!!!
I would pick a particular aspect of the christmas holiday that you love. Maybe snow, or ornaments, of the trees, or presents and use that as your theme.
This might seem a little weird but one year when I was 16 I worked at Olive Garden and I was incharge of decorating for Christmas. Well I got a ton of snowflakes with glitter on them, all different sizes and types, and tied fishing line to them and hung them from the ceiling at all different heights. I think it could be cool since it really doesnt snow in FL. Not sure if your venue would allow it.
I cant find any pictures that show it. Or you could use ornaments that hang from the ceiling I would use plastic in that case so they dont fall and shatter.
I dont know if that sounds crazy. I am a little sleep deprived now and I just thought it would be cool.

Congrats and welcome!
I am biased re: Canada for the honeymoon but ..... and this is a big BUT .... you might want to consider the weather in December - a winter getaway in a beautiful location (I am thinking of any resort in the Laurentians or in the Rockies would be beautiful!) is possible however, if storms roll in, you might be delayed getting in and out.

I am jelous...I wish my site wasn't buried under 8-10 feet of snow during Christmas. I would love to have a Christmas theme wedding.
Your dress is BEAUTIFUL.
The bouquets look perfect.
For your walk down the aisle, how about Ave Maria. It is beautiful. It can be done with a flute, string's or many other ways. I think I have heard it done at least 20 ways. Also, if you find the right singer, it will bring the most wonderful "goosebumps".
I am in Wyoming. Therefore, I am bias. A honeymoon in Colorado would just ROCK. If you want connections or places as examples. Let me know.
If you like skiing...that is even a better plus. The atmosphere in Colorado during the holidays it something that can't be beat and if you want quiet and romantic, it is the place. Can you tell I love it????
Welcome!!!!
Hope to hear more about your plans. Pics!!! Can you tell we love pics???

Hi and Welcome!!! Your dress is lovely -- so what that it's recommended for plus sizes? It's absolutely stunning and certainly appropriate for a Christmas wedding. I loved your bouquet choices also! We had a Valentine's wedding, and did the ivory and red thing and that was lots of fun.
You'll have SO many choices for a Christmas wedding. I loved the picture above of the candy canes at each place. You could also do a small ornament as a favor.
Once again, welcome -- you'll find lots of great advice and wonderful people here!

Welcome!
Your dress looks lovely! I think it would be very keeping with your theme.
Do you have a picture at all of your wedding location?
I agree, Coloradao would be a very nice location for a honeymoon.

Thank you everyone! The pictures are great. I really love the candy cane place cards and will definately be using that. For the aisle walk I was thinking of Oh Holy Night but was not sure. Unfortunately I cannot use Ave Maria as my FH's grandfather was buried to that. That was originally what I wanted to use. I am having a string quartet so something that hopefully won't sound to "whiny" would be good. I am going to have the Hallaluah Chorus as my recessional (I have waited 10 years so I am ending with a Hallaluah). Does anyone know the program of a Catholic wedding that is not a mass? Are there still readings and such?

Sure! But I think you would have to check with the priest as to whether they have standard ceremony in place. Since you're getting married in a church, you may have to stick to their formula, or they may have to approve any readings that you want, and that may include any personal vows both of you write too. It's never too early to get in touch with whomever is performing your ceremony to get a heads up on what you can do and what you can't.

OK, so I am now starting to stress. My FH just cut my wedding budget by 1/3. Now instead of having $15000 I have $10,000 (including the honeymoon). I have already booked my reception and church and sent out invites so I cannot change that. Does anyone know any hotels in NY City (where I can walk to all the stuff) and/or in the Catskills that is cheap but decent?

Your dress is beautiful. All of your ideas sound wonderful so far. As for music have you ever listened to "celtic woman" cd? i played it during our wedding and got many many compliments on the music choice. i love the candy cane idea. that is just to cute and classy too. you might purchase some snow flakes to throw on the tables as well. i also seen a cake with one for a topper that was really nice.
congrats and welcome to pash.
