Default China "Registry"

So, I have inherited THREE sets of China. I like them all, I use two of them at least annually, but none of them are a complete set.

I was thinking for our wedding I would just register for the pieces we are missing... but I recently discovered that all THREE of the sets have been discontinued! Two of the sets (including my favorite ) I can't find anywhere, but the third is a popular Lenox pattern and I can still find pieces on Ebay and Replacements.com.

Here's my question: Is it inappropriate for me, on my wedding website in addition to my traditional registries, to create a list of pieces we need and links to where to get them? The set was my grandmothers, so I'm thinking my parents and my dad's siblings might actually be interested in helping make a complete set. The pieces I need are mainly cups, saucers and bowls, which aren't insanely expensive individually... except that I need a set of 12.

I also plan to register for serving dishes, crystal, and flatware on my traditional registry. Serving pieces are available to match the china, but are VERY expensive and hard to find... plus if I get glass or plain white serving dishes, they will match all three sets (and save storage space ).

I know there are people out there who are against registries... I don't want to start that debate again. I just want to know what you think about providing such a list for those who are looking to get us something.

If it makes you happy then go for it. If your family is aware that you have a web site posted and if they know it would mean a lot for you to complete the set that was once your Grandmothers they may tell others about it as well. I think it is a nice idea.

I think you should do it. Maybe, though, just give the links and info to your family, not to everyone. I dunno.

I think it is completely appropriate to post something like that on your wedding website. I'm against honeymoon registries and enclosing registry info in invitations, but this is just an extension of a "traditional" registry--traditional stuff from non-traditional sources. Go for it!

Actually, mom and I went "pre-registry" shopping this weekend and decided I want "fake" crystal (i.e. pretty glassware - like the stuff I got at Big Lots )... do you know how expensive that stuff she has is??? like $100 PER GLASS! We couldn't even find it anywhere... you can HAVE it!

I think it would be perfectly acceptable. And maybe if you're going to make a note about it you could include the fact that you have your grandmother's set and instead of finding a new set you would love to complete the one that has been in your family. If I saw a note like that I would love to help out by completing the set!
