A Year in our life.....
Dear Family and Friends,
It's hard to believe it's time to recap on 2005 already! It has been a fun year, full of love, Laughter and Learning. Many of you have been able to personally contribute to our year, but if you haven't been here in person, your prayers and warm thoughts have been felt, and we are thankful for them.
Our year started out great. On Kim's birthday we had a quiet celebration planned, until the drainpipes had other plans! Kim's birthday was spent fixing pipes so they would drain. At the time it was pure drama, three men and a woman working several hours in a basement taking turns with the snake, but now it is funny and we laugh about it. Thank you Dan and Taylor! Those are the things that add spice to life.
Needless to say we will remember that January for years to come, but the rest of our year was anything but dormant! Bob suffered a bout of early pneumonia in the early spring. But otherwise both of us have had good health this year, for which we are eternally grateful to God for. The end of January we attended the Seattle Boat show and had a blast looking at sail boats and motor boats, and still dream about owning one!
In February Carl came to live with us after our home was broken into. Carl was a 2 ½ year old Rottie which Kim’s family had raised. At first Carl and Bob viewed each other with some trepidation, but within a short amount of time these two were best of friends. Then toward the end of July we discovered a large lump on Carl's head. We called a vet that said to treat it with antihistamine for a few days and see if the swelling would go down. It didn't so we contacted another vet. Carl then got to meet his new doctor. Carl was diagnosed in late August with an aggressive tumor. We had hoped to be able to have him with us for several more months, though the vet gave weeks to a few months. We had to put him to rest on October 8. We still miss him. Both of us keep expecting for him to nudge us awake with his wet nose and a sorrowful look saying, "I need to go out now!" or "let’s play!”
In March we saw Kim’s brother Jr and his son George off on their return trip to Asia. It was good to see them while they were here. We will miss having them here this Christmas. We also went to the opening day of Mariners baseball. Kim’s first baseball game! We had so much fun! Oh, the Mariners won!
In June we went to visit family in Kentucky and had a great time seeing everyone again. Kim met several new family members and felt welcomed by all. Our trip was fun and eventful! While in Kentucky we went fishing a couple times. The first time we walked away with sunburns, but many hours of memories. Bob even got to captain his own motorboat! What a handsome skipper he makes! The second time we ventured out to Greenbo lake we sought a shady spot. Wrong thing to do! Before long Bob noticed something out of the corner of his eye. It was a copperhead! Kim knows she saw the fangs as it slipped into the water very near where she had just been sitting on the bank cooling off with her feet in the water. After that we moved back out into the sun, but Kim was done fishing for the day! She kept looking for that copperhead. We also were able to visit with long time family friends of Kim’s family in West Virginia. Terry and Shirley took us to Blenko glass factory where we saw glass being blown, and then they took us to see an old church that had been damaged in the Civil War. We had a lot of fun, Thank you!
In early June Al and Millie visited and they also were able to stop by later in the summer, early fall. We always enjoy their visits! Kim also took a couple of summer classes in June and July to boot. Our summer was rather busy, but fun. We got back to Washington from Kentucky just before July 4th. When we got back to Washington we were just in time for the Tacoma Tall Ships Festival and the fireworks, which we watched from Old Towne that evening. Also in July, Kim’s cousin Matt and his wife Tiffany and their son Toby spent a few days with us before leaving for Germany, where Matt will be stationed. It was wonderful to spend those precious days with them before they headed overseas. This summer Glenn, a long time friend of Bob’s visited. It was wonderful seeing him after a few years!
Classes began for Kim again in August, just after Amy and Frank’s wedding. What a beautiful wedding and couple. Thank you for inviting us! August also saw Bob’s long time friends Paul and Missy visit. It was wonderful seeing, and meeting, them again. In September Charlie, Kim’s mom’s black lab puppy, visited Carl for a couple weeks. Those two pups had a blast running around and playing.
In October we celebrated one wonderful year together. We celebrated with a three-day trip to Seattle, though our spirits were dampened considerable because of losing Carl. Bob’s cousin D’Gail and her friend were visiting Seattle at the same time so we were able to visit with them. We went to Dinner at the Space Needle. I don’t know who had more fun looking at the Seattle evening sky atop the Needle, Kim or D’Gail and Jane. It was fun to experience Seattle’s most notable landmark with them. D’Gail, let’s not let it be so long again!
In November Kim’s Aunt Cheryl, Mike and the boys along with Mom and our friend Andy came for Thanksgiving. It was fun having everyone over.
Work and classes are going well. If you are ever in our area be sure to visit. We would love the chance to gab! We had a wonderful 2005 and know that 2006 will just be more blessed than ever. We hope your 2006 is richly blessed with love, peace and joy. May your dreams come true!
