Default Can you get your own bargins without a planner?

HI,

I was just wondering if in the US you can actually get your own bargins/discounts/added insentives from suppliers and hotels or if really its only the wedding planners who are offered these?

Thanks xx

Yes, absolutely! As the bride and groom, you have tremendous bargaining power in all categories of your wedding plans, since wedding experts depend on your word-of-mouth referrals to your friends and family for more business. They all work in a crowded field, so if they make you happy, you'll send more work their way!

It all depends on how you ask....wedding experts respond best, of course, to a positive and friendly request. Not a steamrolling, aggressive approach (not that you'd do that, but there are some folks out there who are the aggressive types...and that works against them in wedding world. Sure, they might get one little thing their way, but wedding experts tell me that when they get the blessing of a 'sweet bride' they're more likely to give them even more discounts and extras for free.)

I'm sure lots of your fellow Pashers have great stories on the discounts they got just for asking...

And don't forget to use your network of friends and family who may have connections at florists and graphic designers, sites, family photographers who do weddings, etc. This social circle discount is one of the top ways to get discounts, so ask your closest friends and family if they know anyone who (fill in the blank). And if they do get you a deal, tell these friends and family that their favor is their wedding gift to you. So many brides and grooms tell me that their cousin knows a caterer, and the connection got them a 50% off deal. That cousin loved knowing that she helped the bride and groom's dream come true, saved them thousands, and that's the best gift possible.

Good luck, and enjoy the stories that will be coming your way soon! If you need more ideas, pick up my book 1000 BEST WEDDING BARGAINS to see all the insider advice on where to look for discounts in your wedding plans.
