Welcome, Peter!
My most memorable experience as a Bridesmaid was about 3 years ago.... there were 4 BMs and the MoH... (Initially there were to be 5 BMs but one had an issue about the dress choice, and ... well... became a BMzilla, so she was un-asked to be a BM)....
The MoH in this case was just incredible... she was an excellent events planner, and really took charge of things (without being controlling) which not only made things easier on the REST of us, but made for an incredible event (including shower/Bachelorette events) for the bride.
Just make yourself available, both to the Bride, and the MoH, offer to assist in any way you can, and most of all, just enjoy being a part of the celebration!

Ah, not to worry... not all Brides are bridezillas.... But DO be patient with her... there will be times she might become impatient or moody. Just don't take it personally, and try to remember the emotional rollercoaster she's on. Take any negative/harsh comments with a grain of salt.

I've only been a bridesmaid once, and the only thing I remember being a little surprised by was that I really didn't see the bride all that much--even though she picked me up at the airport AND I stayed in her house! It was all such a whirlwind since she had so much to do. I guess I kind of expected that I would get to catch up a bit but it just wasn't possible! I also didn't realize how expensive it would be, with the dress, alterations, hair, and flying there.
Your situation will probably be a little different since you are planning on coming early and you won't need to get your hair done
