My fiance and I are having trouble finding a good song to have our first dance to. Neither of us really like those slow love songs. I am trying to find a song by someone we really like, like U2, that we can slow dance to. Do you know of any songs that people have used that arent songs that people typically dance to?

There are so many out there! Try some more current artists like John Mayer, Norah Jones (can't think of any any one else now!). I'm sure U2 has something slow enough. I remember one wedding I went to, the DJ announced the first dance, started with just a couple of slow lines for the bride and groom to get to the dance floor and when they reached the dance floor he flipped into a really fast dance! It was a hoot! The couple was not into the slow mushy stuff and opted for a fast dance! It worked. Do a Search on some of you fav. groups and check out there song lists. Or, go through your CD collection and I'm sure you'll hit on something! You bought the CD so you must like the artist!

You’re right they do – however the lyrics must work for the couple.

To pull this off the couple had to be quite confident in their dancing and must have had a certain theatrical flair. Slow mushy stuff when it is more than just rocking back and forth doing what I refer to as the “penguin shuffle” also brings brilliant cheers of appreciation and support from those that are present. In other words, it is always appreciated when the Bride & Groom think enough of themselves and their guests to more than rock back and forth.
A survey on the internet a couple of years ago asked this question of newlywed couples – What if anything would you change at your wedding reception if you could go back and redo it? Over 80% responded that they should have learned to dance at their reception. A consensus opinion was that over three minutes out there alone without a plan was an eternity. It wasn’t like rocking back and forth on a congested dance floor in a dimly lit room where no one was paying any attention.

This is certainly true and will require some effort and a meeting of the minds of both the perspective bride and groom!
