Could you suggest a nice song that isn't too meaningful? I know that sounds aweful but they're not very close. Thanks

I understand!
From the Wedding Dance Music List; Mother / Son list at the Pash site two stand out as not too "lovey-dovey":
1. The Way You Look Tonight
2. What a Wonderful World
From the Wedding Dance Music List; Dance with any relatives list also at this site:
1. I Wish You Love
2. May Each Day
are two songs that express wishes for the future with no expressed abiding love.

I am in the same boat. He is not close to his mother at all. We were thinking about skipping that part completely. Is that a bad idea now that everyone seems to be adding that dance?

If they're not close then the only two dances that are really important are
1. The Bride & Groom's 1st Dance when they are introduced to the room.
2. The Father (or surrogate: presenter at the ceremony) / Daughter "honor dance" immediatley after the cake cutting.
Then you can get the party going!
