Default Buffing out millgrain?

Hi there -
I'm considering a plat diamond channel ring. The one I like has a millgrain pattern - it fits best against my ering, but the millgrain pattern does not look good against my ering. The store said that they can buff out the millgrain pattern, but that sounds like hogwash to me. Anyone have experience about this?

Thanks!

My brother is a jeweler and they can pretty much do anything. If the store says they can do it, I don't see why they couldn't. Call around to a few other stores, see if they say the same thing. If they all say they can, then you can be sure it can be done!

Buy it contingent on the millgrain being buffed out. Ifr it isn't, you don't have to pay!

Yes, the jeweler said that it was a common thing that they do, but will it look ok after they buff the milgrain out? Has anyone seen a ring with buffed out milgrain?

thanks for all your responses so far!

You wouldn't notice a thing I'd be willing to bet. You can't tell where or how they resize rings can you? Same thing, different procedure.

I worked in jewelry for 7 years and have worked with many good -and not so good - jewelers. Buffing the millgrain shouldn't be a problem for a good jeweler. Keep in mind that platinum is much more difficult to work with than white gold, so you want someone with experience and talent. Depending on where you are looking and what their store policies are, I would ask them about putting a refundable deposit on the piece with payment being contingent on how it looks completed. Either way, congrats on finding a great ring and more importantly your upcoming wedding!

This post is more than a year old. I expect she's already got her ring.
