Eyeshadow
How do I get my eye shadow to last longer? Mine usually wares off quickly.

Hello!
The key to lasting eyeshadow is to first start with an eyeshadow base. This will help the eyeshadow to last all day, prevent creasing, and allow the true colors of the eyeshadow to show through. For oilier eyelids, these brands create a shadow base that sets really well:
*Merle Norman Crease Resistant Shadow Base
*Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ( www.urbandecay.com)
For dryer eyelids, these primers are moisturizing
*Benefit F.Y. eye ( www.benefitcosmetics.com)
*Merle Norman Automatic Shadow Base
*Clinique Touch Base for Eyes ( www.clinique.com)
After applying eyeshadow base to the entire area, allow the base to set then apply eyeshadow as normal. You may find that you will actually need to use less shadow as you will notice how much more intense it looks! I hope this helps

Apply translucent powder first and then the shadow.

Would these work for eyeliner as well? I don't have a problem with my eyeshadow but my eyeliner's half gone by 1.

I've tried putting foundation on my eye lids first, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
I'm going to look for an eyeshadow base hopefully they have some at walmart or walgreens.

What I find with eyeliners is, pencils generally melt away within 30 minutes if they are super soft (Which feels better on the eyes). Liquid stays pretty well unless you have allergies and tend to get watery eyes. What I find stays the best is a gel or creme liner which is like a hybrid of a pencil and a liquid but better. They go on smooth and have an opaque consistency, but since they are not waterbased, they wont wipe away if you have watery eyes. If you can't get ahold of some gel eyeliners, then I find that if you use pencil or liquid liner and pat an eyeshadow of the same color over it, it tends to stay a bit better.
As for Mark's bride, if you are looking for a similar product in a drugstore brands try:
*L'oreal cosmetics De-Crease eyeshadow base. ( www.lorealparisusa.com)
*Maybelline Dream Mousse Shadow (it's not techinically a base, but it doesn't crease and you can buy a skin-toned shade) ( www.maybelline.com)
Good luck, and have fun shopping!

I actually picked up a Loreal eyeshadow base lastnight! I'm trying it out today.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the advice!

Ok, so do you know if those drug store bases are non-hypo allergenic? One of my Christmas presents was a whole bunch of Este Lauder make up from my DH and my eyes just watered like a faucet with the eye make-up. Almay seems to work well for me for eye make up. Does Almay have a similar product?

I have never seen an Almay eyeshadow base, but it's possible it exists. Check the Almay website, it will list the products that exist.

Maybe it's just me! But it's not working. I can't find anything that works for me. I can't see spending tons of money on eyeshadow or base that won't stay on.
I just read what typed above and it sounds really whiney!

Wow, it's not working?? Do you have excessively oily eyelids?
I have had two brides that come to mind that had extremely oily lids and they claimed nothing worked. One I used Merle Norman crease resistant shadow base and she was simply amazed. On the other, I used Laura Mercier and it seemed to keep her shadow through the ceremony. What type of eyeshadow are you using? Do you rub your eyes alot? I am determined to find a product that works for you!

To Kim:
I have had alot of clients that say that Estee Lauder burned/made thier eyes watery. You may be allergic to carmine (a natural coloring used in some blues, purples, pinks and reds). I don't believe Almay has an eyeshadow base. I do not know if L'oreal is hypoallergenic, but I almost positive Maybelline is. I hope this helps!

I use Maybelline Expertwear in the frosty white color. I like shimmery eyeshadows. Maybe this one is to light for my skin.
I don't rub my eyes often and don't have oily eyelids. Do you think it's just the eyeshadow?

My Frosty colors seem to wear off a lot too. I think it might be the color have you tried any others?

I haven't tried any others recently. Does anyone know of a good shimmery frosty brand?

Ah, well anything creamy frosty is gonna wear off much faster because it's texture, and drugstore brands are hit and miss with that sort of thing. I can recommend some great drugstore finds and department store brands that I think are just great, however ask if your local drugstore will let you return used shadows so you can try it without having to keep it if you hate it.
*Revlon Eyeglide Shimmer Shadow (frosty shadow in a twist up form)
*Maybelline Shadow Stylist (powder shadow in a container with a want in shimmery colors)
*L'oreal Color Fresco (really pretty frosty color sticks!)
*L'oreal Crystal Infinite (Like the Shadow Stylist from Maybelline, but it's a cream that dries to a frosty powder finish)
*L'oreal Illumination (Loose powder shadow)
*Cover Girl Eyeslicks Gel Eyecolor
Sephora and Ulta both carry Urban Decay Shadows which I think are some of the greatest eyeshadows around. Period. They have soo much pigment. ( www.urbandecay.com)
*Urban Decay Powder Eyeshadow (most pigment shadows around!)
*Urban Decay Creme Shadows (frosty, frosty colors)
*Urban Decay Liquid Metal Eyes
*Urban Decay Metal Eye Sheens
Other brands (All the following products can be found at www.sephora.com)
*Merle Norman Creme shadows
*Paula Dorf eyecolor glimmer (you can buy them for $9.50 at www.sephora.com they are normally $19.50)
*Bourjois Intensely Luminous Waterproof Creme Shadow
*Benefit Cosmetics "Show Off's"
*Pop Beauty Glitter Sticks
*Cargo Eye Shimmers
*Pixi Fairy Dust
*Lorac Glam Rocks
You can also use Mica powders found at your local Craft Store. They run about $3-4 dollars for a large container. I really really really hope you find something that lasts on you!! Good luck on your quest!

I have a simliar problem - only, the eyeliner doesn't wipe off, it smears, so I look like I have a black eye. I put it on inside my eyelashes, and I've tried it just on the outside, away from the eyeball...but it always ends up underneath and nowhere near my lid. Ugh. I tried a liquid liner, but I don't have a steady hand for it.

After this post I dug through my makeup and found some "she laq" that FH got for me awhile ago. It's by benefit I think. I've used it 3 days in a row now and it's doing WONDERS for my pencil liner! I've gone all through the workday smudge free!

You know what's funny, last Sunday my hairstylist and I filmed a television segment, and she wanted black eyeliner to line the inner rim of her eye but she didn't want it to smudge, so I asked her if she had any She-Laq and she said she had some that was a couple of years old, so we tried it but it actually made the eyeliner separate as we applied it, almost as if it had thinned it out...maybe it's because it was old. That never happened when I had used it in the past. Does your bottle have an expiration date? I couldn't find one on hers.

Hmm I don't think it does...Just a dark blue glass bottle with a fortune teller or something on the front, and the words "She Laq"... And I know for sure it's quite old!
ETA:
I don't ever put it on my inner rim though, maybe that was the problem because of eye fluids?

Well I blotted the excess moisture from the inner rim off before applying the eyeliner, so I'm fairly certain it wasn't that. Perhaps it was just old and separated (it's not a good idea to keep certain items over a few months much less two years! shame on her! )

I bought this awesome eyeshadow yesterday it's called Maybelline Diamond Dust.
It actually stayed on all night. When I got home at 3 am it was still on!!!
Payed 9$ for it and when I got home and tried to open it the lid stuck. It finally opened, but my thumb went right threw the shadow and 1/2 of it went on the floor. I was ticked!
Oh well.
