Default Caring for your ring...

How do you handle the care of your ring(s)? Elaborate or give your answer that may not have been listed.

ETA: It won't let me edit my poll, but choice one should read: "if for any reason"

I'm a shower and lotion person. I take it off to do dishes, too. But, not to wash my hands.

I take it off for everything. My sister's MIL works at a jewelery store that specializes in diamonds and she told us that diamonds attract & suck up soap & lotion. She also said that an easy way to clean your ring at home is to just take windex and a toothbrush and go at it. It really works wonders.

Smile Mine is a permanent part of my hand

I only take mine off to clean it. I take it back to the jeweler once every 3 mos or so. I also take it off if I am doing something that may damage it. (i.e. I took it off when we were building our new porch/deck.)

I take mine off for showers and sometimes handwashings. I clean it whenever it starts to lose some of its luster. I use that red stuff, smells like ammonia and has the little brush in it. Works nicely.

I take mine off when using lotion, and I only take it off for showers if I have just cleaned it. I clean it about once a week, ususally on the weekend. I think I have the same stinky red stuff you have cru5h.

I picked the first option, but actually, I don't wear my ring around the house at all - I'm worried about misplacing it, or having it fall off my finger while doing dishes or something like that. At work, I do wear it when I wash my hands, but I do take it off when I put lotion on

I usually take mine off when I get home, and put it back on when I leave the house again. If I happen to have it on, I take it off when cooking, doing dishes, bathing, typing, gardening, etc.

It does get dropped in the cleaner jar at least once a week, and brushed gently with the ammonia stuff (which is what Windex is)

I only take mine off if it is going to get damages, when I am around my nephews (sharp edges, don't want to hurt them), or to clean it. But that is it.

I usually do not have my rings on at all. I take it off for so many things that I just keep it off. Also, DS has cut his head on it before when he throws his head. I try to remember to put it on when I go out of the house but 50% of the time I am ringless. DH rarely wears his also. Though, mostly bc of his work. He usually will put it on if he is dressed up for meetings or going out.

Basically, I think that we know we are married and do not care what others think if we are not wearing our bands.

Other: I take it off to knead bread and make meatballs.

That's it. I should probably go have it cleaned soon.

When I first got my e-ring I took it off when ever I thought it would get yucky. Now I don't wear it to work, other wise I only take it off for showers, dishes, yard work, mixing somethings or heavy cleaning. Otherwise I wear it always. My wedding band I wear to work but it comes off otherwise for the aforementioned times.

I'm with Margie, I take it off to wash dishes too, other than that just lotion and shower. And I have to make sure that I dry my finger really good when it gets wet b/c my ring slides around quite a bit. I rarely clean mine at home unless I just happen to think about it. I take it to the jewler twice a year to be inspected and cleaned tho.
On a side note, I've asked for ring holders for Christmas this year (I hang my rings on a curtain hook above the sink....safe, huh?) but was told today by my co-worker who drew my name (for gift exchange) that she looked and looked but never found any. Anyone know where I can find a couple of them?

I chose answer A. But I'm always forgetting it!! I have to pay really close attention in public washrooms so that I don't leave it behind. I've never worn rings before and I'm still getting used to it a couple of months later!

Do you think this is fairly typical? I haven't had mine cleaned yet... I've had it for, em.. It'll be two years in Feb... I'm mildly ashamed of this but at the moment it's only staying on my finger coz I've tied an elastic band round and round it!!! It's because I lost so much weight since we bought it! We're going shopping for our wedding bands soon though so I'll have it cleaned & resized then...

jewellery box! I keep my rings very well in their respective boxes, and polish them after tkaing them off my fingers..I take lots of precautions, and my gold ones--I usually take to my jeweller's to make them shine brighter..he applies some solution on it and refine it..

My engagement ring is still brand new, and I'm still in that "never taking it off" phase (lol) but I'm seeing a lot of great ideas to maintain care for the rings. I'll defintely try the windex-toothbrush one! Especially since I work in a warehouse where grease is king.

Default Well...

I work at Bernie Robbins, so we have a steamer and an ultrasonic (basically a vibrating box filled with ammonia). I take it off at night so I don't use my little marquise to nick FH's head while we sleep. But otherwise it stays on.

I take it off before I do my bathroom stuff before bed and then put it back on in the morning after the shower and lotion and make-up and all that good stuff. I also take it off for during the day lotioning. It just seems to get gooped up if I don't. I haven't had it cleaned officially though. Maybe I should look into that.

I never take it off. The only time I have recently was when I was painting walls...otherwise, this baby is with me. When he first gave it to me, I took it off practically everytime I blew my nose...but now I've learned that it's a trooper!

ETA: I do clean it regularly, though.

Mine are a permanent fixture to my hand - I hardly ever take my engagement ring off and my wedding band has stayed on my finger since Damon put it on on our wedding day!

I take mine off for sleeping and when I shower, put on lotion, do dishes, etc. When I first got it, I used to wear it to sleep; I never wanted to take it off. When my jeweler found out, he wasn't too pleased. Apparently you can knock it around while you sleep and loosen the setting, and the diamond may fall out more easily. I'm sure he was worried because we have a warranty plan that promises they'll replace any diamond that falls out of my ring (provided I don't pry it out ).

I'm terrified of loosing my ring, I am such a clutz I have a better chance of knocking it into a drain by taking it off, then it sliding off my finger into one, so I ALWAYS leave it on. The only time I ever take it off is to clean it and to put lotion on, and even then I try to stay on a few feet away to avoid my clutz action. Another good example of why I always leave it on is the other day I was taking a shower and took my hemotite ring off because the finger it one was swollen and it was hurting, but anyway, while I was in the shower my 4 year old "accidentally" dropped it in the toilet (thank goodness I only paid a dollar for it). Yet another reason It is always on. But then again I am a special case altogether!!!

I"m rather clutzy myself. DF took out an insurance plan on mine which includes a life time of maintaince. i have to take my ring in every 6 months for it's "check up". Anything that is needed done sizing, resizing, cleaning, adjusting. etc is free.

I leave mine on except for cleaning and lotion application. The odd part is I can't stand any other jewelry on for any extended period of time over 8 hours but i feel lost without my e-ring must be meant to be on my finger 24/7
