Default water

OK I know this might sound crazy. Can u drink to much water? Well thats all I drink. Besides a u/s tea when we go out to eat. Most restaurants serve tap water and I don't drink tap water. FH keep b******* that I need to slow down on the water. He says it can't be good for me. I buy it by the case and go through a case every 2 days. I'm proud of my self cause I use to drink way to much soda. I've been soda free for almost 2 years. Not even one drink...

I wouldn't think that too much water would be a problem - it's supposed to be very, very good for you. I'm sure Wynelle would have an idea...

I have heard that TOO much water is a problem. I saw this on some TV show a couple of years ago...don't remember which show, though. That people are addicted to drinking water because it thins your blood and gives you a "high." But it's really dangerous to thin your blood like that. I think this was drinking GALLONS of water a day to get to that extent, though. But that's great that you gave up on soda--drinking water definitely is the best thing for you.

MTGH did I read that right? U can get a high from drinking a lot of water. I have never heard of that. I know I'm crazy but I take my bottles of water and put them in the freezer till they are just about froze. If I can't have my bottled water I have to have ice. I know ice is bad for your teeth. B-4 Feb.of 2004 I could of counted how many times I had drank water. I just woke up one day and said no more soda. It worked!!!

It's called Water Intoxication. Here's a webpage talking about it: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm

The only thing I can think of is maybe it can interfere with blood clotting (since your blood is so think) if you should cut yourself or have an accident or something. Where is Wynelle?!?!

Wow! I never knew you could drink too much water. I don't drink nearly enough, I'm dehydrated all the time.

Sorry-- I was in church. Yes, you can drink too much water, and it can create a condition called water toxicity. This is mainly seen in athletes (which is why they invented Gatorade at the University of Florida) or other people who do something that causes a major fluid loss (ie heavy sweating, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea) and replaces that fluid loss with just water. Plain water doesn't replace the electrolytes (potassium, sodium, primarily). You can go into renal failure and other system problems. Which is shy Mommy alwys gave us gingerale when we were sick. But the average water drinker (8-10 glasses a day) isn't a problem.

Now if you are drinking and drinking and always thirsty, and constantly urinating (which kind-of goes with it), then it never hurts to have renal function checked and also a pre-screening for diabetes. Constant thirst is one of the early signs of diabetes.

I keep a close eye on my sugar. I'm check for diabetes every year just because it is in my family. I drink at least 10 bottles of water a day. I have found if I drink a bottle of water about 30 min b-4 I have lunch then I won't eat as much.

You can actually die from drinking too much water, but I've only heard of this happening to people who take certain illegal drugs that make the body crave huge amounts of water.

I had a trainer tell me once to drink half your body weight in oz.... example if you weight 120 pounds..you should drink at least 60 oz in water every day plus drink more if you are working out.

I think it was this year or last year , there was a cop in training and he drank too much water and ened up drowned himself. He was very young and in shape too.

So I would say just becareful!

Don't switch back to soda, though. SO not good for you! And especially as you have diabetes in the family--another reason to watch the sugar intake. I see no reason why you shouldn't drink water before a meal to help fill your stomach so you don't eat as much. That seems like a reasonable dieting technique. I guess just try to slow down the rest of the day. When you say you have 10 bottles a day, what size bottles? 10 8 oz bottles sounds about right. But 10 16 oz bottles--160 oz sounds like too much.

I'm wondering if my thyroid don't have something to do with this. But it is 16oz bottles I'm drinking. I don't think I could go back to drinking soda. I do have my cup of OJ in the morning. As far as that goes I don't drink nothing more then water on most days...

I would definitely call your doctor. As Wynelle said, if you're finding yourself THAT thirsty that you need to drink so much water, it could be the sign of something more serious.

Last time I was pre-screening for diabetes I had told the doc how much water I was drinking and all he said was water is good for u. I do have a thyroid check in Jan. I'll bring it up again! My thyroid has always been out of control and I guess I have just got use to if I drink water I don't eat as much. I have lost a lot of weight since I stopped drinking soda. But also I have had help of diet pills. Right now I have to get my thyroid back on track b-4 I can start those again. B-4 any one says any thing about diet pills. These are something the doc has control of and he only gives them to me when my thyroid is on track for a few months. Then I don't take as much as he gives me...

I think drinking water is good for you. But it might be a problem if the water never quenches your thirst. My brother is waaaay into fitness and he drinks a gallon of water a day when he is seriously training.

I don't drink enough. I don't think you're drinking too much. I'm not a doc, of course. I have a thyroid prob too, and I've done the diet pill prescribed by my endocrinologist too. It has helped. I don't take them religiously, but it's about that time again

Then I think it’s a god thing. Diabetics and people with other medical problems usually drink large amounts of water to quench a thirst that can never be quenched. Healthy adult kidneys can process fifteen liters of water a day. A gallon of water has roughly 3 liters so that’s like 5 gallons of water. There are 128 oz. for every gallon. There is such a thing as water intoxication which happens when a person has too much water and the body attempts to regain the electrolyte balance, but it is super uncommon unless you are a infant or a long distance runner.

As you can probably tell, I just got off the phone with my brother and he said he drinks that much water to replace the water he loses when working out. He also said that the average person doesn’t drink enough water so what may look like a lot of water to some is probably what we should all be drinking. He told me some other stuff but I cant remember it right now. I guess I will go have some water.

P.S. I’m a water snob too I don’t drink tap. I ‘m in California and we have hard water but I like the way soft water tastes better.

LJ, I was just curious how the water situation is going?

As part of my "I'm-not-calling-it-a-diet" diet, I've increased my water intake. I hate having to pee so much but I feel better already and it has only been a few days!

I am use to having to pee all the time. lol I have started drinking more juice earlier in the day. When I get up in the morning I put 8 bottles of water in the frig. and I know I can't have no more then that. I use to hate water and never drink it then I got up one day and said I had to. Now I can't be with out it! Still have not touched the soda and that makes me happy. On the 6th of Feb. it will be 2 years with out a soda. I still want a Dr. Pepper but I won't do it...
