Question Wedding Officiant

How do you find a wedding officiant if you are not getting married in a church or in the courthouse?

Welcome to Pash!

You can actually look up officiants in the phone book, or check wedding sites like The Knot, or a more general web search. Probably look for someone nondenominational, it sounds like, unless you are looking for someone of a specific faith who is willing to do a ceremony outside the church (which pretty much restricts you to Protestant--and not all of those). If that's what you're looking for, asking for a recommendation from a church of the denomination you're looking for might work.

Venues often have lists of vendors they've worked with and/or recommend, and occasionally these will include officiants, but not often.

I would just start calling different churches I have found that Church of Christ and Church of Gods don't ask to much.

a friend of ours was a reverend through an online class he took.

i'm so excited to have him, since he's known me for 20+ years. i think it's going to give the ceremony a personal touch, instead of a stranger up there saying stuff about you that he doesn't really know.

so, that's always an option!

Try talking to your photographer if you're going to have one. We get all kinds of questions... and if they've been around for long they may be able to help you out. I have quite a few people that I could pick up the phone and call about officiating. I also have the names of bakeries, florists, DJ's, limo's, etc. that I have found to really do a good job. All part of doing weddings!

Ask friends or family that have been married recently and you can always google it for your area and start calling them and see who you like the best.
