I've never heard of it being a "requirement" I just know of people that do something special that means something between them. I plan on writing each set of parents a letter detailing how much I appreciate them, and then either buy something small that means something, or just leave it at the note. Grandparents I don't plan on doing anything.

We did. At the rehearsal dinner, we presented the parents with photo collages we'd made of both of us as children, teenagers and then adults, with a spot left open in the middle for a wedding picture. They loved them!

I don’t think is a requirement but I think that is just something nice to do and also personal. If you feel like you and FH would like to acknowledge them with something sweet for them go ahead and plan for it.

We gave our parents a picture frame with our Names and Wedding date engraved on it and a note that said we were buying one of our wedding pictures to go inside and they could pick which one they wanted....

We viewed these as thank you gifts because...well, they raised us...and paid for most of our wedding activities.

We got them tri-fold frames with the meaning of each of our names on the smaller sides and room for our wedding pic in the center. They loved them.

I got my Mom something since she forked out 75% of the money for my wedding and helped me with all the planning.

I took her out to dinner and gave her a Mom handkerchief and a gift certificate to a local spa for a massage. She loved it.
