If your sites don't give you printed directions to include in your invitations (be sure to ask if they don't offer!), you'll have to create the maps or directions yourselves. Here are some tips:
1. Go to the Web site for the location, click on their directions link, copy and paste into a new document, shrink down to a
still-readable size and print out as many as you need.
2. A home or office printing job is fine -- you don't need to pay for professional-quality printing.
3. If you'll get directions from MapQuest or another site, be sure to do a test drive before using those directions. Sometimes, auto-directions sites don't give the best routes, or they actually give wrong directions!
4. Check out
www.weddingmapper.com, which is a for-pay tool that allows you to custom-create your own wedding map (with little icons for the ceremony, reception, and other stops along the way).
5. Hand-draw your own map, or have an artist friend create one for you...and be sure to write the printed directions on the back. Some people aren't 'map people' and prefer actual sentences: 'Turn left on Main Street.'
6. Print out extras and include them in guest welcome gift bags or baskets, for those who forgot to bring their directions with them. Cuts down on the phone calls to you.
7. Print out directions from the ceremony site to the reception site, and have someone hand them out at the ceremony exit after the wedding. OR include these slips in the wedding programs. Guests love it when you're so considerate.
