Default minister from out of state?

It seems like I remember someone asking this question before but I could find it. FH's dad is a minister in MO and really want him to be the one to marry us. We are getting married in TX. Can he marry us even though he's from out-of-state? I can't seem to find out online whether TX or our county has any rules about that.Help?

I'm not sure what TX rules are. I know Are minster can perform in VA and WV. You have to be lic. or something in every state. In most states it's not hard to get this done. Call the local court house where u are being married they could tell u.

My uncle (an ordained minister) came from AK to NY to perform our wedding. It's okay is the minister's out of state - you just need to check the laws where you're actually getting married to see if FFIL needs to file any additional paperwork. Check with the most local office, then work your way up if you have to (I remember my uncle asking what county we were getting married in - in NY at least, the rules change from county to county).

This is what I found on our county website:

PERSONS AUTHORIZED TO CONDUCT CEREMONY

Licensed or ordained Christian Ministers and Priests, Jewish Rabbis, or persons who are officers of religious organizations; and who are duly authorized by the organization to conduct marriage ceremonies; Justices of the Supreme Court, Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals, Justices of the Courts of Civil Appeals, Judges of the District, County and Probate Courts, Judges of the County Courts at Law, Courts of Domestic Relations and Juvenile Courts, Justices of the Peace, and Judges of the Federal Courts of this State.

If he's ordained by a denomination that exists in your state, you should be perfectly fine. If he only has a local license or an area license, he'd need to get one in the church where you're getting married.

The requirements in your state are the same as they are in my state. As long as the denomination recognizes the person, then they can perform a wedding. This includes people "ordained" over the internet by the Universal Life church. The people not included are judges from another state. Judges must be recognized in your state or by the federal court system.
