What are the requirements to have a Catholic Wedding? Does one or both bride and groom have to be Catholic? Do you have to have had the confirmation sacrament in order to have a Catholic wedding?

I am having a Catholic wedding. The bride or groom does have to be a confirmed Catholic. You both do not have to be Catholic. My FH is Lutheran. You will be required to meet with the preist several times, and you will also have to go to a marriage retreat. You will be required to agree that any children you have will be raised Catholic. We are also required to meet with a married couple on two or three occasions to discuss marriage. Good Luck with your planning!

When either the bride or the groom is not Catholic, you will have a ceremony much like a Protestant ceremony rather than a nuptial mass.

Syringa is right. Unless both the bride and groom are Catholic, the ceremony will last between 20 and 30 minutes and will NOT include Holy Communion.

Also, to be considered Catholic in terms of being able to be married in the Catholic Church, you must have had the holy sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, First Confession, and Confirmation.

To add on to what feb bride said, my husband and I had to provide the church with our baptismal certificates and proof of pre-cana classes. Just something to keep in mind if you were baptized in a church far away from where you live now. It could take a while to get the certificate from that church.
