Default So...where are you going? (or where did you go)

This is a thread that was started in our old BlissWeddings.com forums by cru5h on 7/01/05.

What's your honeymoon going to be? Are you going immediately following the wedding or waiting a little? If you're already married change those questions to past tense

6-day Western Caribbean cruise. Can't wait. Never cruised before. I have a very strong stomach, thankfully, 'cause 6 days would be torture if I got seasick. *turning green* We're going the day after the wedding. YAY!

We are taking a 15-day Hawaiian cruise! FH has never been, and we hate flying so it just worked out perfectly. Maggie (TheaterDiva1) helped me find it! The timing actually worked out perfectly too. Wedding is Oct 1, and the cruise leaves on Oct 8. I will have time to go back to work for a few days and finish closing my month end so I don't have to worry about someone else getting it done while I am gone. We live in the SF bay area, and we will drive down to Long Beach where the cruise departs from. 5 days at sea, 5 days on the islands, and 5 days coming back. Cru5h, you are going to LOVE the cruise! There is so much to do on the boat. And bring at least one pair of jeans or shorts that are either stretchy or too big. I gained a few pounds on our last cruise! The food is unbelievable... I can't wait!!!

I did a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. Stops were in San Juan, St Maarten, St Thomas and Nassau.

You still may want to get those lil patch thingys to keep you from getting seasick. They work great... to bad I can't remember the name of them. Ask your doctor... they have to be prescribed.

and stay out of the hot tubs!
I remember someone saying they got an STD on their honeymoon from the hot tub...ick...

If you don't generally get motion sickness, you'll be fine. Those big ships have stabalizers, and unless you are on the tail of a hurricane (like we were on our first cruise/vacation together) you feel like you are standing on solid ground. Even with the hurricane though, we still didn't get motion sickness, for me it was great, like being rocked to sleep. I think I may have mentioned this before in another post a while back - but if your cabin does not have a porthole or window, be sure to bring an alarm clock. We didn't have any natural light coming in, and there was not clock in the cabin, so I never had any idea what time it was until I finally dragged myself out of bed - usually to find that it was about 10AM! I am usually up with the sun. It sucked to sleep that much. I wanted to get up and do stuff.

Is it really possible to get an STD from a hot tub? I would think that the heat, chlorine and other chemicals would take care of any possibility of that happening.

we spent the wedding night at the hotel where most of our family was staying and everyone who was still around the next morning came over (to the hotel dining room) and we all had a morning-after brunch, very casual. Then we went home and found mountains of presents that we opened together and put away before driving to the beach house in Pacific City, where we stayed for a week. http://www.pelicanbrewery.com Here's a link to the brewpub -- there's a "surf cam" to check out the beach and the Haystack rock that we could also see from our bedroom -- which is where we walked to daily for a pint and a halibut pizza. If you ever get to Oregon, check this little town out: the beach at Cape Kiwanda is awesome, the food & beer at the pub is unbelievably good, people are very friendly and there's wild rabbits and deer everywhere. *sigh* I want to go back so badly...

We're going to take a long weekend right after the wedding (November) and stay at some fancy hotel or cute B&B not too far from us (obviously, don't know exactly--but there's lots of choices in the DC area and surrounding area). Then in February we're going to the British Virgin Islands for a week. So excited for 80-degree weather in February!

oh November! While you're in the BVIs, make an effort to get out to Jost Van Dyke, it's one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean... snorkeling out there is awesome.

OMG, I'm getting some serious beach-envy right now.

I have heard that it is possible because the heat of the tub incubates the germs. I don't know where I heard it so it could have been some fiction something somewhere - but I have heard of someone getting an STD from a hot tub on a cruise so I guess it is possible (something like 10 people on the cruise got it or maybe more).

We're doing something like that. Doing a long weekend close to the ceremony location after the wedding and then Honeymooning in NYC between Christmas & New Year's so that just once we can spend NYE in Times Square instead of watching on TV.

We are spending our wedding night at the hotel that we are having our reception at. The day after the wedding we are having a brunch and then flying to Vegas for a week, to see the hoover damn and the Grand Canyon (gift). Then in April we are taking a 5 night Carribean cruise.

FH and i are honeymooning in Gatlinburg Tn. (where we will be getting married-we live in Atl.) We have a 5 night stay in a cute little cabin and then we plan on staying in a hotel for a couple of nights on the way back down to Ga. coming home. FMIL changed her work schedule so they can stay the day after the wedding and have brunch with us the day after the wedding and then they will be coming home, and FFIL is going up with us 2 days before the wedding to have a dinner with us. (Future in-laws are both divorced and remarried) They both wanted their own special alone time with us before/after the wedding. I feel so special

Edited to add: I'll keep in mind about the STD hot tub thing, UGH!! but does this only apply to a cruise or could this be in any hot tub! YUCK!!

We are leaving the day after the wedding at 9am (ick, we have to get up at 6am!) to go to Riviera Maya, Mexico for 7 days. It's right outside of Cancun. We can't wait! In the whole 7 years we've been dating, we've never gotten to go on a vacation like this. We're so exicted!

You guys going on a cruise are going to love it! They wait on you hand and foot! When I went, I took motion stuff everyday, just in case. I've heard that that's a good way to avoid it. Once you get it, it doesn't go away for a whole day and you're really really sick. I'd rather do preventative than just take my chances. Just my opinion!

I'm hoping my decades of fair-going will curb the motion sickness, but I'll bring something along anyway. Can't be too safe.

Side story:
Richy and I go to the South FL Fair every year and ride this one weird ride. It swings like a pendulum, not rough. The seats look like the claw game where you win a stuffed animal. There are 4-5 stuck together and they all face each other in a circle. That whole thing spins smoothly while you're swaying side-to-side. It's so *shiver* awesome. Anyway, one year we went on it 6 times, back-to-back. Neither of us got sick - but afterward we were all screwed up. Equilibrium was whacked and it felt like I had a hangover or something, without the nausea.

2 years ago we went on it again, during the day and the first time this lady was so obese they could *barely* get her into the seat. It took 2 guys to lock the harness over her. Then she spent the entire ride screaming, but not the "holy sh!t this is fun" screaming. It was the "stop the ride! I'm dying" scream in the highest pitch humanly audible. I felt I'd been gypped. It's a very relaxing ride. So we went on again. This couple was sitting across from us, which is like 15-20 feet away. The guy started vomiting. I was petrified that it would land on me. There are few things more disgusting than watching a drunk guy toss his cookies on a ride while his way-too-nice girlfriend sticks her hand in front of his mouth...all while the ride never stops moving. I felt spittle on my lip at one point. ... I think it landed on me I scrubbed and scrubbed in the bathroom just incase.

Back to topic
I hate hot tubs and wouldn't ever go in one anyway. I don't even take baths (I promise I shower every single day though, sometimes twice). I hate being hot, totally intolerable. Which is kind of weird that I'd choose FL as my home. But air-conditioning, beaches and pools make it ok.

I actually think that the hot tub STD story sounds like a coverup I googled it:
http://www.swinging-tips.co.uk/artic...bs-&-stds.html
It's possible. I don't know how the swinger's website came up in the top 5 but I think they'd be a good source of knowledge hehe.

fh and i are not going to get a hotel; we want to spend our wedding night in our new home, then we will take a weekend trip to new orleans or st louis or chicago--all relatively near us. our *REAL* honeymoon is a 2-wk vacation in europe, as we have semi-final tickets to the World Cup (soccer!!) in berlin. we are still narrowing down our choices, but i think it is berlin to spain to france to (via chunnel) england and ireland. fh has never been abroad, so he is VERY excited!!! yay!!!!

Eww, eww, eww, I'm so weirded out by this. I love hot tubs and jacuzzis (sp?) and that's one of my FH's "must haves" for wherever we go after the wedding. I'm totally bringing my own bleach or something now...ick...

We flew to Ireland and spent 10 days driving around, staying in historic homes. Loved the scenery, hiking on the Barrens, shopping and just generally pub crawling at night. We inadvertantly dropped in on someone's wedding at a church near Cairn's Cross?

Those going on cruises will have a wonderful time. ALso those elastic wrist bands work well for acupressure points for motion sickness. On our cruises, the only time you could really even tell it was moving was going through the straits between Cuba and Jamaica.

They don't work for long periods of time, from my experience. I used them for "morning" sickness though, and wearing them 24 hours a day tends to make them less effective I think :/

We haven't decided where we are going on our honeymoon yet but we are leaving the day after the wedding and probably going for a week-10 days. FH wants to go to Hawaii since its so close (we live on the West Coast) but I've been there and I love traveling, so I want to go somewhere more exotic. We both agreed we want somewhere warm and on the beach. My parents got married on St. Kitts in the Caribbean so suggested somewhere there, but I have been thinking Tahiti or Fiji...although after I looked up prices ($$$) I am thinking it probably won't happen.

We took an 8-day Carnival cruise out of New York and stopped in San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortola. I didn't really have a seasickness problem this time, though it was raining the day we left (I think it was the tail end of Hurricane Jeanne). The one thing I didn't like was I wasn't in any one port long enough to really enjoy it - just half-days, long enough for one shore excursion (shopping, tours, snorkeling, etc.) At least in St. Thomas we didn't sign up for anything - we just spent the morning on the beach, then went shopping in town. We decided next time we'll fly there directly and stay for a week.

Yikes! Did you make it through the other hurricanes okay?

DH's grandmother lives near Orlando and had been trying to sell her house. The house itself was okat, but the carport was destroyed by Hurricane Charlie (she managed to sell it anyway).

We had gotten hit 3 weeks before by Frances. Actually it was Frances who knocked the power out for 7 days. With Jeanne it was just 2 days. Frances was weaker but stayed around longer and did more damage. Jeanne was scarier. I've lived in FL my whole life and had never seen hurricanes until last year. Where I live happens to be in a place where they get thrust further north or pulled in further south of us. But the Bermuda High was unusually large at the time last year and sent them for our area. Thank God we didn't take the direct hit. What we got was bad enough.

Of all the houses around my neighborhood like 10-15 were totally obliterated (roof collapse or it was torn off) and then it was carports everywhere else that took the most damage. I'm hoping for a far calmer August and September. I bet a lot of summertime brides are hoping the Caribbean and Gulf are calm for their cruises and resort honeymoons too.

my husband planned the entire honeymoon for me-it was a surprise. Each day he gave me a card telling me what we'd be doing that day, and each morning and evening i was given a gift.

We had agreed that we wern't going far (somewhere that we could drive to) because we just wanted a relaxing week to ourselves. we had never been together just the 2 of us for more than a day at a time so we just wanted time to focus on us and our marriage and being together awww....

anyway, also part of the agreement was that we'd take a big trip on our 1 year anniversary, so we are currently planning a 2 week trip to Paris! yay! Only 9 weeks until we leave!

Going away somewhere for a few days right after the wedding to relax and then will do a proper honeymoon sometime later, when FH can get more holiday time.

Haven't decided where to go - funny thing is both FH and I have travelled around the world a lot but the once place I am not very well travelled in is America! You know what they say about our own backyards! So we're thinking a nice driving holiday up the California coast from LA to SF - stopping at wineries along the way. Or visiting all the national parks in the Southwest - I grew up in California and still haven't seen the Grand Canyon! Or Yosemite for that matter!

If you would like to see America...A friend of mine is getting married in March. She and her fiance were thinking about going on a cruise. She found a cruise that leaves from North Carolina...I think. It heds up the East Coast to Boston and stops in like 10 different historical sites and states along the way. She is very excited about it (getting to see our nations historical sites)

Kitten - that sounds like a neat idea! The only problem is I live in New York and I also used to live in Baltimore/washington Dc so I suspect the cruise will stop at places I have already been to/lived in before.
But I like that idea of that type of cruise -do you know if they do the west coast? Maybe go from LA all the way up to seattle/vancouver? Which cruise line is this? That would be ideal, esp. as it means both FH and I could drink wine with our dinners and not have to worry about who drives.

e star - this is a Royal Carribean Cruise lines Pacific Northwest Cruise. Exact wording from the site reads - "Once you visit the Pacific Northwest, you'll understand why so many people are flocking to this region every year. There's no place else that combines the sophistication of city life with the splendor of the outdoors quite like this. From San Francisco's hip city scene, to outdoor adventures in Victoria, British Columbia, to the American history in Astoria, Oregon, you may just want to move here too. " Seems like you may want to check it out. Royal Carribean cruises online. may be fun for you! Let me know what you decide to do. Have you ever been to Vegas...that is where we plan to go.

Thanks Kitten! That sounds fab, I'm going to get onto their website and order a brochure and slip it into my FH's briefcase before he goes to work.

I have been Vegas several times and I think you'll like it. It's a lot more family friendly and loads more things to do besides gamble! You can golf, TONS of shopping, lots of shows in the evening - Cirque du Soleil has a permanent home there, visit nearby Hoover Dam, loads of places to eat including amazing seafood buffets, even squeeze in a trip to the grand canyon if you wanted. But the shopping - there are really great outlets nearby so definitely check those out. And just walking around and gawking at all the casinos can take all day! Don't miss the free volcano show and the free pirates show at the Mirage. My friend got married in Vegas at the Bellagio casion,-but he and his fiancee were both Chinese and seems they had a high percentage of guests who loved to gamble. En route to the reception, from the ceremony, they had to walk past the main casino floor and they "lost" 1/3 of their guests!!!
