Hi,

Have you ever been on a boat, and felt seasick? If you've never went on a boat, would it be possible for you to go on one soon, even if it's just for a couple of hours? Chances are, if you feel ok on the boat, you'll likely be ok on the cruise.

Best of luck!

Yes my fiance's parents own one and we go out all the time..... Disney Cruise Lines had something wrong and a whole bunch of people got sick and I think that they still haven't figured it out....What are some relaxing cruises???? NO kids and not a party boat either!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally don't know of any relaxing cruises. I've been on small boats before, and the only substantial sized boat I've been on is the Chi Cheemaun (in Ontario), which is basically a ferry, not a real cruise.

If a bunch of people got sick, I would guess it would be the food. And that could happen anywhere -- I saw something on TV about weddings going wrong, and at one reception all of the guests starting throwing up.. they all had food poisoning.
To have this happen would be extremely rare though.

Do you know of people personally who have taken cruises, and loved them? Maybe you could ask them for references.

Speaking of which, I know my friend's mom went on a cruise and loved it and the food, but I am not sure which one. I'll ask her this weekend.

We went on a Carnival Cruise. The boat was so big you really don't feel the movement at all. It was really up to us how crazy we got - If we wanted to chill on the deck it was relaxing - if we wanted to stay up till 4 am and party/gamble we could do that too.

Hi. I was the Matron-of-Honor for a friend who had her wedding on a cruise. I had been on boats before but never a cruise ship. Most of time I (and the rest of the group-16 others) were fine. Only when we hit very rough waters could you really tell the boat was rocking a bit.

It was a Carnival Cruise on the Truimph for 7 days. We stopped in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. If you like I could email you pictures. Post your email so I can send them.

I am not sure if cruises have boats that do not allow children or really not party boats. There are a variety of activities on the ship to do or you can just relax on deck in the sun. Please feel free to ask me more questions about it if you like.

Lisa Marie

My parents have been on several cruises and never have gotten seasick. They say you can't feel the boat rocking. My finance & I are getting married next May on the Norwegian Sky. We are going on an Alaskan cruise. I figured that would be relaxing & practically kid-free!

Wondering if you talked to people on the cruise line about the # of children on the cruise. The one I was on there was quite a few children and school had already begun for the year. Who knows though.

Hi CodysBride,

The only time I have been on a cruise was with my family when I was ten. We went on the QEII (Queen Elizabeth the Second) across the Atlantic. It was fabulous. Although I was a little kid, there was so much entertainment on the ship that I did not feel the need to "run around" and wreak havoc on the other passengers. Most of the other children on the ship felt the same. I found a little friend, and we had so much fun entering the endless talent competitions and ordering hot chocolate from the restaurants. Of course, our behaviour could have been merely cultural -- when our parents said, "Don't run amok" we did not run amok. Oh, there was no seasickness, and definitely no food poisoning! I think the incident of food poisoning a while ago was an isolated occurrance on a specific ship. Unfortunately, all cruise lines took a bad rap from it. But you can get food poisoning ANYWHERE! Oh, and the lack of seasickness is because the ship is so big that you don't actually FEEL like you are on water. I mean, this ship had at least three swimming pools alone!

My parents went on a smaller cruise in the Galapagos Islands. They had a great time. Of course, there was less to do on the ship itself, but it made daily stops (opposed to the QEII, which didn't make any stops) where the passengers could combat "cabin fever" by getting off the boat every day.

Thus, my suggestion if you would like a cruise is this:
1. Choose a really large ship if it does not make many offshore stops. I don't know if the QEII runs any longer, but something of that calibre is great. You feel like you are on a floating resort; three pools, two beauty salons, clothing stores, pharmacy, five levels of berths, three (or four?) dining rooms. I probably sound like an advertisement! Sorry!!
2. A smaller ship that makes loads of stops around islands and stuff. This way you don't feel so "cooped up" and can leave the boat at any time.

I hope I helped!
Sincerely,
UptownGirl

Hi. I have only taken part on one cruise which was because of a wedding.

September was very hot in Ocho Rios!!! The waterfall looked very nice as a background for the ceremony. We then took pictures there and down on the lower area just past the waterfall. If you like post your email and I can send you some pictures of the wedding. I would recommend using silk flowers depending on your location for two reasons: 1-If it as hot as I experienced it then flowers will not last very long, in my opinion. 2-This way you can make whatever type of bouquet you would and have keep it. If you had planned on keeping your bouquet it would not be permitted since you would not be able to bring it back in the country.

Hope this will help. Please feel free to ask more specific questions and I can tell your from my experience.

Smiles,
Lisa Marie

For anyone considering a cruise for they honeymoon, I think it's a fabulous idea!

My husband and I took a transatlantic cruise for part of our honeymoon; it was 15 days from Barcelona, Spain to Galveston, Texas. We stopped in several ports, including the Caymans, the Canary Islands, Malaga, Spain, and Cozumel, Mexico. Our cruise was on Royal Caribbean, and I would definitely recommend them! The service was fantastic, as was the food.

As far as children on the ship, there were very few, apparently because of the longer cruise, which evidently attracts an older crowd. As has been said before, you might ask the cruise line directly about how many kids there are on a particular cruise.

Also, it was fun because people found out that we were honeymooners, and everyone congratulated us and all that, which was nice. In addition, cruises often have a special night where people on their honeymoon or having an anniversary can have cocktails with and meet the captain.

There was another couple who got married halfway through the cruise, on the Caymans, and they seemed very pleased with the way everything turned out. (The ship made a wedding cake for them, etc.)

As far as seasickness, my husband and I were fine. If you are worried about it, you can always get an inside cabin, in the lower part of the ship, which is the most stable. However, I would recommend an outside cabin with a balcony, if you can afford it. That's what we had, and it was so nice to be able to have breakfast on our balcony, and listen to the waves at night - very romantic! Several travel websites have great specials on these cabins - I'll look up the website names and try to post them here later on.

One other thing is, try to have at least one full day after the wedding to rest at a hotel before you leave for your honeymoon. We weren't able to do that, and we were sooo tired when we got to our destination the next day! It's good to have a rest after the excitement and stress of the wedding - you'll enjoy your honeymoon more!

Have fun everyone!

Yea!! How fun! I'm so excited for you. RC is a great cruise line, too! A couple of words of advice, though. Don't buy the little baskets that they offer you before the cruise (fruit basket, etc.) We did that b/c we thought it would be nice, but it's wasted money b/c they offer the same food all day, everyday, for free! The champagne package is worth it, though. (Two bottles for a decent price, if I remember. We had one of the bottles the day of departure, hanging out on our balcony. So fun!!) We also cheated a bit and brought a few bottles of our own wine and champagne, mostly b/c we had been in France and wanted to bring some home. They say you aren't allowed to, but no one searched our luggage anyway.

If you want a quiet dinner and your reserved dinner table is with a group, you can get your seating assignment changed and have a table for just the two of you. There is a specified time for doing this on the arrival day; you gather at the dining room and speak with the maitre d'. My husband and I did this; we wanted to have the time to ourselves, but it is also fun to be with a group. Just personal preference, I guess.

If you do go Royal Caribbean, definitely do the "Love and Marriage" game show!! (It's kind of like the "Newlyweds" game show that used to be on TV.) It was so much fun; my husband and I were the newlywed contestants on the show, and they even gave us a tape of the show to take home with us. Beware of the last question on the show, however. They apparently always ask the ladies "Where is the most unusual place you have ever 'made whoopie'?" All three of us were so embarrassed, but I told the game show host that it was none of his business, and refused to answer the question.

Anyway, hope that's not too much info! Have a great time on your cruise!!

Christy

My fh and I went on a cruise last year. It was a Carnival cruise and for the most part we didn't feel the motion of the ship. We hit rough waters during the last couple of days but by that time, day 5, we were ready to be on land anyway. As far as getting sick from food I'll tell you that I and a few other people we spoke with had a bad reaction to the turkey sandwich but it wasn't bad enough to keep me from going on a cruise again.

I had an allergic reaction to the pineapple on the ship I was on. I think the fruit has more acid or something in it than our fruit here in the USA. But other than that, I had a good time. We couldn't feel the ship's movements either and got to see dolphins swimming by also.....

I have cruised seven or eight times on the east and west coasts. (Including my first honeymoon, 25 years ago!)

On every cruise, the food has been fabulous, and you can eat all day long. There are ranges of types of food from the elegant dinners in the dining room, to more casual food back in the poolside grills. The pineapple is fresh, which has a different tast than canned, plus fresh still has some of the digestive enzymes. The larger ships all have special "fins" which help stabilize the movement, and generally you don't even realize the boat is moving until you look out of the boat. There are a few rough area, such as when passing through the straits between Cuba and the lower Islands. Children are supposed to be in the direct control of their parents; Disney cruises have the largest number of children. The recent digestive illnesses found on the ships were spread by hand to mouth contact, so the shps have been totally sanitized. But keep those moist disinfectant towellettes anad wipd down your cabin door handles, etc. Its a wonderful way to travel, so enjoy!
