Default Anniversary trip....

Well, in two and a half months it will be our first anniversary!!! The past year has been so much fun and kind of a whirlwind....but I really want to do something special (we don't normally celebrate holidays with all that much gusto...for example our christmas gift was to buy new exterior doors for our house ). For the four years we dated....we never celebrated an anniversary..so I really want to make this a big deal, so tell me what you think of this:

I was looking at airfare today (we are going to Portland in August) and I just started looking around our anniversary...I'm thinking Wed-Sat in Las Vegas...round trip airfare $78 each, hotel three nights on Vegas Strip $350, awesome anniversary trip, priceless!!!

I just want to book it and not tell him where we are going and give him a Frommers at the airport or something....is it horrible to plan a trip like that and not ask or anything? or a delightful surprise??

It sounds great! Which hotel are you looking at? We honeymooned in Vegas.

We are going to the Bahamas in May for our 2 year. DH doesn't know but he may suspect. We got passports about 2 weeks ago and that may have clued him in.

I think it is a cute surprise as long as you dont do what my father did to my mother. He told her they were driving to Halifax for their honeymoon and staying with his aunt. The the day after the wedding he took her to the airport and she got all excited because she though she would get to go somewhere warm. He only took her to the airport to watch the planes take off because he though it would be a good start to the drive and she would find it interesting. . It was a huge disappointment (she had fun on their honeymoon though)

I plan on staying at the Monte Carlo. I've been to Vegas several times, but DH never has.

Ironically we honeymooned in the Bahamas...are you going on a cruise or flying??

I just feel bad planning this trip and not telling him...odd? And yet it's so exciting planning a somewhat surprise...

That's funny. I love the Monte Carlo- simple but elegant.

I feel kind of weird too. I told DH we are going somewhere but he doesn't know where. I haven't actually booked the cruise yet. I'm waiting for the prices to go down.

We live about an hour away from 2 cruise terminals (Tampa and Port Canaveral). We are looking at a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas for about $419 for the interior rooms. I want to stay around that price but I want a room with a view. I am hoping to be able to go on the one from 5/7-5/12. We both graduate from college on 5/5 so it will be a double celebration.

We went on the five day cruise from Port Canaveral to Freeport, Nassau, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. It was an absolute blast...but we had never been on a cruise. I actually looked into going again...but airfare to Florida is more expensive than the cruise. You guys will have fun and what a great graduation gift!!

That's the same cruise!!!

I have never been on a cruise but DH has. He went to the Grad Caymans and Cozumel. I'm pretty excited. Which cruise line did you cruise with and what type of room did you have? Do you think it's worth the extra $ for a window or not?

We cruised with Carnival because they were the only ones that had a cruise available right after our wedding. Neither of us had cruised before...we got an interior room because we were afraid of being sea sick (since we'd never done it before) and we were told the interior cabins were more stable and you wouldn't feel the motion of the ship as much while you were trying to sleep or whatnot....The good or bad thing is that you don't know what time it is...so if we wanted to "nap" in the afternoon it was dark and we could sleep. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room really...most days we either went to port or dozed by the pool...so to me I don't think it really mattered. Next time though I think we will try for a room with a porthole.

Also, I booked kind of early and I didn't do a guaranteed room....so they actually completely sold the floor we had booked and they upgraded us so we were on the last deck of rooms...that was nice...I think the ship we were on was the fascination?!?! Are you going to do any excursions??

I think I'm going to book snorkeling. We have already swam with dolphins. Other than that, I don't know. I'm really nervous about cruising because 1. I'm terrified of international travel and 2. I'm scared of water but I'm making myself do this. I wonder if an interior room would make me less scared....

Where do you live Whiddle? I'm in Tampa and we are leaving from here on May 17th for a "Last Fling" kind of cruise! There will be ten of us on the Inspiration cruising to Cozumel. I can't wait!
