scratching chin How much is too much for a man wedding band??

I started to look for wedding bands for my FH, I know exactly what he wants, what I don't know how much will be too much to spend on the wedding band. Does that makes sense?? He wants a white gold 6-mm comfort fit band, no engraving, no design, no nothing, just plain.... I found one at Overstock.com for $259.99 and the same one, meaning same style in a different website for $400.00 so I'm just wondering how much do you consider will be too much????

One word of caution about white gold, make sure you are not allergic. I can't wear white gold, it has to much nickel in it. I have some white gold in my e-ring, but it never touches my skin (it's in the prongs etc). We didn't know white gold had nickel until we were talking with a jeweler one day.

I don't think $400 is too much. My hubby's band cost a lot more than that. I think it just depends on your budget

"too much" is relative to how much you make and what your overall wedding budget is, so that's a question nobody can really answer for you.

but if it helps, my FH's was about $500. we didn't consider price too much when picking out our rings. what we most considered was "we have to wear these every day for the rest of our lives, so we better make sure we get exactly what we want"

it took me weeks to find the "perfect" engagement ring, my band i knew right away that i wanted a plain white gold satin finish thin band to go with the e-ring. his didn't take too much, he looked at the selection at the same place i got mine, narrowed down to 2 he really liked that looked good with mine and tried them on. the one that suited him best was the winner. we looked at the price afterwards and agreed we could afford it. if we couldn't have we might have looked at a few other stores before settling on his to see if we found the same style cheaper (which i did AFTER!! grrr)

because we got all 3 rings at the same place at the same time, we got a decent deal and great service. keep that in mind when you're shopping, and remember to ask if they can make you a deal for getting all 3, a lot of times they will. we didn't get too much off ours because we went shopping during their boxing week sale so they were discounted already. for all 3 rings we spent about $1500

My hubby's with diamonds and yellow gold cost me $400 but it was custom made by my brother and I only had to pay wholesale prices for the gold and stones. Otherwise it would have cost me $1200.

My DH's band was $25.00. It is 6mm 14k yellow gold. He didn't want anything else. I wasn't gonna complain!

The ring I wanted to get for my sweetie was yellow gold with Celtic engraving all around it, and was about $900. When I sent him to the jewelers to pick it up, he switched it out for a simple, plain gold band for about $125. He couldn't understand why I was willing to spend so much money on a band for him!!

I think Bob's, which matches mine (he bought his own ring.... BTW he basically picked all of the rings out, the e-ring was a surprise gift and I loved it) but I think it was around 150. We did recently get it resized though, so should I add that cost? We did it as part of a christmas present, mine both needed to go down and his up.

My FH's wedding band was 75$. Got it from Rogers and Hollands. It's a plain silver band. He works construction and is a farmer so if it gets damaged we can always get a new one. That's why I couldn't see spending anymore than that.

Ugh. Don't even ask. Mike's band was more than my wedding ring and mine has .45 c in diamonds - his had .85 c. It's white gold, and the diamonds are small and go partially around the top of the band, kind of like small baguettes and it's hand carved on part of the band to match mine. It was about $1350 - but we split the cost of both wedding bands. I was shocked he wanted "bling" but he wanted it to match my e-ring and wedding band. (I think he's regretting now b/c of golf, basketball and soccer by the way - so if your man is athletic, skip the bling...)

I am not sure how much we will spend but Jake is Jealous that my ring will cost so much more than his will!! Its kinda funny! I am going to have him find the ring he wants and then get that. I know he wont spend that much.

I think the overstock seems to be a good price. I would keep looking to make sure that it is! I am very happy with everything I have purchased from overstock!

My DH's band cost a lot...maybe $1800??? His ring is platinum and has three large diamonds (1 ctw maybe?) spaced out evenly in the center in a groove. He has really large hands and so he wanted a pretty thick band to match his fingers (small bands looked funny on him) and I think he also wanted bling in his ring. I love his ring, but he actually picked it out himself. When we first started looking he didn't seem too particular about rings, but now he says how much he loves it and is glad he chose that one. His wedding band cost more than mind, because mine is white gold and his is platinum....

My DH's cost $400-500, I think. I can't quite remember. More than my wedding band, less than my e-ring (which were about $250 and $750 respectively). His is 5mm 18K yellow gold, but we also bought them from a brick and mortar store. We could have gone cheaper, but we really trusted this place and wanted to buy all the rings from there, so it was fine for us.

So, is the tradition for the Bride to buy the groom's wedding band and the groom to buy the bride's? I haven't really given that much thought obviously.

I think it is tradition, but I don't know how much it is followed anymore. DH and I simply put money aside in his savings account (my savings account was for our wedding money) and paid cash for our wedding bands. We both contributed what money we could afford; at the time, he made much more than I did and so he contributed more to our "ring fund".

ETA: We had each picked out our own wedding rings, so we didn't have any elements of surprise about giving each other/buying each other our rings.

Michaels ring was priced at $1300 but we only paid $700 for it because of a sale and i traded in a diamond earring for it.

Here's a pic:

We also wanted to make sure both of our rings were exactly what we wanted so cost wasn't really an issue.

i might steal his ring and go get it engraved. not sure how much that generally costs or if it will make it harder to resize afterwards though

but yeah i think it's generally the tradition that you buy each others' rings. but for us, we've been together so long and have everything joint already, it made more sense to just go pick them out together. it was a good bonding activity too, got us both excited about the wedding and stuff, we had fun shopping for them. we just put it all on the visa and both paid into it every week.

My husband's ring was less than $150. I bought him a titanium ring because I wanted it to look like platinum (which is what my ring is made from), but I knew that he wouldn't wear it everyday, so the cost of platinum was not worth it to me.

you have to be careful with titanium though, it can never be resized. we looked at them but decided against it in case his weight fluctuates as he gets older and we need to resize.
