Help!! My dresses are navy and it is a summer wedding. I am struggling to find flowers that work. Any suggestions?

I used burgundy roses and carnations, accented with just a few wax flowers (a small, pinkish flower.) The bouquets were hand tied and wrapped with burgundy ribbon. It looked very nice together with the navy dresses.

Hi Jamie,

Welcome and Congrats.

Navy is one of my favorite colors, though I went with black for my bridesmaid's dresses.

Is your only color navy or are combining it with something else? One of my favorite colors with navy is simply white- you could do lilies, white roses or even sky blue carnations.

Good luck!

Heather

I think almost anything goes with Navy (except brown). It will just depend on the season. For summer, think of bright yellow, orande and red tulips; or white roses or stephanotis with pink accents, or white with green accents. Its a huge choice of colors.

Jaime,
My MOH's dress (and everything else) was navy, and everyone LOVED her boquet. If you can give me your email address, I can send you a picture of the flowers (I don't know the names of them). They went PERFECT with her dress too - we just got married in May, so they look bright too.

Cheers,
Netty

What about a couple of long stem calla lilies tied with a ribbon. my grandmother used this as her bouquet and it looked so elegant!

I too love navy and just about any shade of blue. You did not say what month you will wed, so I'll say just about any color excpt deep purples. I love an all green bouquet.Look at picture of anemones. They come in an ever so gentile pink and deep dark centers that will match the navy dress. Bright yellows are also a good option, but please no blue carnations or roses, they are not natural. Hope this helps

One thing to consider is that dark flowers against a dark gown will not show up in your wedding pictures. For a summer wedding, you might go with shades of pink/rose/mauve, yellow and light blue, white, red, or a mix. Depending on the month of the wedding, hydrangeas would be lovely (they don't stand up well in heat). Delphiniums come in light blue and a royal blue and look nice when combined with other colors. Your florist will have photos of different types of flowers to give you an idea of what colors and styles.

You don't want to do a dark flower. It won't show up in photos and it just isn't that appropriate for a summer wedding. White would be beautiful - very simple and fresh. I like lillies and gardenias, myself. Also, shades of pink, peach and orange if done right look great, and the color combo is unexpected and fresh. Something you could also consider if the bridesmaid's dresses aren't very formal is different colored gerber daisies tied with ribbon. I think that would look great against navy.

My best friend had dark flowers against a dark burgundy dress, and it looked beautiful! I don't think that's a big deal at all - choose the flowers you want, and don't worry to much about how dark the flowers are. Unless your flowers are navy, the WILL show up against your navy dresses.
