My wedding is in August 2003 and my colors are blue, white, and silver. I am having a difficult time finding blue flowers that will be available this summer. Can anyone help me?

Have you asked about irises?

I have been told that irises are not available in August in the shade blue. Is this not true? I have also heard that delphiniums are blue, but not always available at the end of summer? I also have a tight budget so ordering flowers out of season is not feasible.

Have you considered silk fowers they will give a much wider range of options, but find a florist with a good stock and veiw the stems first.

Yes, I have considered silk flowers, but want the real thing for my bouquet--if possible. I have some time still to figure something out, Does anyone know if it is better to go to a florist than a supermarket to get flowers?

I would definitely go to a florist. My florist told me that when she gets the flowers in, she makes sure they're okay by the time she uses them. If they're not, she calls the distributor and gives them hell, and makes them send new ones. If you go to a supermarket, you get what they have -- unless you're talking about something I don't know about (a florist inside a supermarket or something).

Also, you might ask if they can paint a different flower blue. My MOH's florist painted some of the flowers in her wedding bouquets, and I didn't even know that until she told me just recently. I think the flowers they painted were pink, so I don't know how it would work with blue, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. They might have some other ideas as well.

hi judrick,
I'm not sure if the following are in season, but try out hyacinths, hydrangeas, forget-me-nots...
Another option is to go with blue roses.

Thank you, everyone, so much for the information. I'll find a florist and see what they recommend.

Judrick, just to let you know that originally those were my colors as well. I had even found the perfect flowers. Go to a florist and they can dye white roses to blue. I was going to have a dozen of long stem dethorned blue roses as my bouquet. It can also be done to cala lilies and other types of flowers. But the roses dued blue were exquisite. Hope it helps

dear blue wedding gal
Im a florist in uk, My 1st Q to you would be what shade of BLUE? there are many flowers in blue avaiable in the UK in summer i cant see why you cant get them in the USA, although most of the flowers bought in this country are imported from Holland. 1st find your self a good florist, find out where her suppier gets there flowers from. I know alot of flowers bought in the US are from Colombia. Has she got a contact in holland?
Other than that have you thought about using blue beads, crystals, ribbons, rope etc to incorporate the exact colour blur in to your bouquet? hope this is fo some help. good luck!!
