Unity Candle & Votives
I am so proud of myself! What do you think of my DIY projects? The unity candle peices I bought at Hobby Lobby during a 1/2 price sale. It's still a work in progress so it's not perfect, just taped on for now. The votives, I bought different size glass votive holders from the dollar store and bought textured scrapbook paper and wrapped 2 of the holders in that and then I used crumpled tissue paper for 2 and I used a peice of light blue vellum for the other one. I think I like the assortment of the votives rather than having them all the same. What do you think??

Looks great. Just one question. Have you tested to see if the votive holders get hot after a while? Sometimes the glass is so thin that it may warm up, which is fine, but you wouldnt want the tissue paper to burn. (just a thought)

I thought of that too, I let them all burn for about 4 hours yesterday and they did get warm but not hot to the touch. And I did make sure to leave a little room on the top edge so they wouldnt catch on fire! We wouldnt want that.

I used translucent vellum and printed it from my computer. It was so easy. And very inexpensive

I had the same idea for my memorial candles, using the vellum and printing from my computer, but if you don't mind can I ask you how you attatched them to the candles? I haven't tried yet and was wondering what worked for you.
Also yours look awesome!! Great job!!!

I'm not sure what she used, but I made mine too (with ribbon) and I used pins to hold it on. Most everything I've seen on making your own uses pins...

Oh, and if you're going to glue anything to it....try Elmer's glue first. I went through like four types of glue before I tried it and that's the only thing that woud keep the rhinestones on.

alongroadahead08-Right now they are just taped to the unity candle but I planned on using pins or thought about trying double sided tape. I think that the pins would be the way to go though. Not sure how well the tape will stick to wax very well.

I had my unity candle done at a craft store, and the woman there used a hot glue gun.

We are using the long banquet tables and I am going to scatter them down the length of the tables in the middle and on the head table-something similar to this for the head table but different sizes, textures and colors.
We might use them on the bar as well.

You did a beautiful job. I just called my sons fiance and told her about them because we have looked at several unity candles and just can't find what she likes. My son is designing their invitation so we thought maybe we could use something from his design on the candles! Thans for the idea!
