Bride's Maid's out of the Country!
As you all know My MOH is in Switzerland until the 1st of May! She is VERY unhappy and says she will be back in May. But she said things could change "but she doubts it". Anyways, so that's where she is!
My BM Amber is in Australia and says she will be home between April and June!
OMG! I think a large part of my struggles with getting colors ironed out is partly because the girls aren't here and I realy have no way of getting there dresses outta the way! I pretty much have to wait until they get home!
Which means "IF" they both come home in May that leaves 4months to order dresses and have the fitted 2-3x before the wedding, which I have been talking to some people and bridal shops and they say it's generally 4-6months just to get the dress in! This time frame doesn't include fittings! uh oh! Do you see my problem?
So now, The question is....WHAT DO I DO???
They will recieve the hand made cards I made them late next week or early the following week and Iam sure they will accept. When/If they do is there some way to aproach the situation?
I have decided I want Olive green for the dresses! Which I found the color I want at DavidsBridal!
Do I give the girls somewebsites of dresses in that color and have them pick the style and when they come back to Canada they can get the fittings done?
I guess what it boils down to is, In May there is a chance we might not be able to find 2 dresses in the same green off the rack! That worries me!
Yes, I want the girls to love what they will be wearing but in the same breath this is something I don't think should be left for too long.
What do you girls think?
Am I jumping the wagon? am I being to pushy?
Thanks, I really appreciate you guys still sticking around to hear mt bitchyness!
Jayme.....I swear I'm not a bridezilla!

Is there a particular style of dress you like? There should be a Store Locator link so these girls can buy the dress themselves wherever they are.
If you're okay with the girls wearing different styles, at least have them pick from the same designer/manufactuer. Otherwise, an "olive green" from one person may translate to a diffferent shade with a different designer.
I would just e-mail links to allow each person to buy locally.
Another option is to order the dresses by you locally, then send them out yourself to whoever needs. My BM's were local and could pick up their own dresses, but I sent my MOH's dress to her in AK to make sure she got the right color.

I definitely think you need to order the dresses before they get back to the states. And I'm not sure they would have the same stores locally as we have here, so you will probably have to do it all online.
What I suggest you do is pick out 3 or four dresses that they can view online in the color you like, and let them pick from those. They can get their measurements done at pretty much any dress shop and order their dresses online, or if that's not possible they can send the measurements to you so you can order the dresses in the store.
You can probably just hold on to the dresses and wait until they get back to have them fitted - for my sister's wedding, I got mine done the day before!
No worries! It's easy!

Can you just have the girls get their measurements done and send them to you, so you can order the dresses for them? I'm sure there are just as many places for alterations where they are as anywhere else, and that it would be nothing for them to get a few measurements if you asked. That way you can get the dresses ordered and have them waiting to be altered when they get home. To be honest, my BM dresses didn't end up arriving until a month before the wedding-not by design, but whatever-and everyone still had plenty of time. The BM dresses generally don't take nearly as many fittings as your dress will-I've never gone in more than once for any of the weddings I've been in, and that includes one for a very particular bride. I think as long as you get their measurements and have the dresses ordered, you should be in good shape!

Yes, I would make sure they buy from the same company so that the color is the same! But Iam in Canada and Davids Bridal is States only! From what I can see they only have the one style in that Olive green! I tried to sort by color but I'm sure it is only that dress!
http://davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...lor.jsp?cfid=1
This is the link for the dress, Like I said I'm pretty sure it only comes in that style! I know that My MOH likes the style but my BM wouldn't like it at all!
Ok, I think what I'll have to do (like you girls suggested) is wait to ge the girls responses from my card and I will start looking at websites with the color of dress and send them links of different designs! I would like to go with Davids Bridal, but...I just don't know about how many styles they have in the "Olivine". Maybe I'll have to get a calling card and call the company and ask!
Thanks again!

Oh, I have one more thing to add!!!
Iam ok with buying from the States! I'm sure the girls are too!
I have 1 concern, I don't want this to sound Bad! My BM is an amazing person she is just REALLY bad at paying people back! I'm worried if I go and order the dress for her I wont see the money! Right now I can't afford to be out any Iam trying to save for the rest of my dress when it comes in and saving for odds and ends for the wedding, and some money for the honeymoon! So financially Iam JUUUUUUUUST making it!

I agree, you probably need to order the dresses before your girls are back, to be on the safe side. I also think you should call the company (or an actual store in the States...you could get numbers from the web, I'm sure) to check what dresses are in that color. I'd be surprised if there is only the one dress in that color; that doesn't seem cost-efficient to me--and Davids Bridals always seems to offer multiple items in each color. I haven't been on their site; it may just be difficult enough to navigate that you aren't finding what you're looking for.
For the bm who might not pay you back--if she can't place the order herself online (I don't know if DB offers online buying, some don't), can she call or fax a credit card number to the store you're using?

...one other thing about the dresses in particular. That long BM dress is gorgeous, but a difficult shape to fit. Are your girls pretty long and lean? I know that mine were all different shapes and sizes, so something like that one would have made at least two of them wildly uncomfortable. We actually went with a Vera Wang that looks a great deal like the strapless bubble dress at the far left.
Just something to keep in mind! I love the color though! And I think the idea about having your one BM call in/fax her CC number is a great one-it'll save you a lot of grief. You might just get the number for her to do it so it'll be on file, and then let her know the total before charging, so you don't have to track her down to get it.

That's one of the main reasons I've strayed from DB. There were only a few dresses offered in the color I wanted and it drove me crazy. It wouldn't surprise me if that's the only dress offered in olive green. I would go on Alfred Angelo's website. Every single bridesmaids dress is offered in every single color. There are so many choices!

AshyBekka, The one that likes that style is a size one and almost 6ft tall! She's just gorgeous! This is dave's sister! She would look fabulous in it!
Wellllll, if SP is going to DB she may be able to see if they are offering different styles in that color!

Honestly? My girls didn't order their dresses until 3 months out and it was fine. They're here, they're fitted, I think one of them had to pay an extra $25 to rush deliver it, but no big thing. It took about a month for them to come in and then 2 weeks to get the fitting right. I went with Eden bridal.
You've still got 8 1/2 months. I wouldn't get on their cases about it yet. I would start running color schemes past them, then just pick a color and manufacturer.

I thought I would do some research on ordering time frames here in Calgary!
So far, I have called 5 different bridal shops, and the response I'm getting right now is 3-5months to get the dress in! And then one month before the wedding (August) is when the girls have they're fitting!
It wouldn't be a problem if I had only one girl in my bridal party, but Iam going to need to order the dresses 1) because they need to be the same color 2)They will be different styles!
So for now, I'll start the hunt I guess!
