scratching chin Confused with the white/ivory! Help!!

Ok, my colors for my wedding are wine, gold, and white or ivory... thats the problem. The place that we are renting has white chairs that we can use for the ceremony and reception. My first thought was.. ok, I would rather have ivory, but white table linens and chairs with gold table runners would look nice. But it just hit me, my dress is ivory....
So, does it matter that everything else is white except for my dress or will it clash??? I cannot afford ivory or gold chair covers, that would be one solution, the best solution... but if I use white chairs, then I have to have white linens... then my aisle runner (its outside of the reception venue) should be white, then do my pillow, flower girl basket, and everything else be white???
Would it look ok to have the white with the ivory dress? I would love everything else to be ivory, but chair covers are the only way I can think to fix this, and I really cannot afford them!!
Unless anyone knows a supercheap place to rent chair covers (gold or ivory).
Venue:, could not find old threads, sorry!

Dress:

What should I do????????????

You're not going to like my answer hun. Unfortunately when you put white and ivory together, the ivory often looks like it's dirty, so it's not usually a good idea to put the two together. You especially don't want your dress of all things to look dirty.

Gold will look beautiful! Just be careful with the white and ivory!

I was thinking, she wasn't going to like my answer either... but it's the same as the others.

I would definately use ivory for all the wedding accessories.

Does the reception site provide other color choices in linens. Like you could use wine tableclothes and find an inexpensive thick ribbon or tulle in gold and tie big bows around the back of the chairs to lessen the white.

One good thing, the white seems to be a stark white. We found chaircovers for about $1.50 each with sashes. I found the knot really useful for local vendors and asking about vendors, services and getting real feedback!

But I agree about the Ivory will look dirty.

I am not sure how handy you are but you might be able to buy some Ivory fabric for a good price online and make your table cloths and such. If you start now and do one or 2 a day you will be done in no time and then you can make your chair covers. I had a friend who did this and she couldnt sew at all but she bought the stuff you can put in the fabric and make seams using your iron (fusing I think it is called)

First thing I would say is don't worry about the chair covers. Once people are sitting down there will be nothing to compare your dress to

Do you really need an aisle runner? If so I'd sprinkle it with petals and your eye would be drawn to that. Plus, people are going to be watching you & your FH not comparing your dress to the runner!

On the pillow etc. They are not really going to be held next to your dress for any length of time so I wouldn't let that concern you.

It won't matter if all the linen on the guest tables are white or not, because you're dress won't be seen next to them for 90% of the night.

But I'd consider having maybe an organza overlay made for the top table. I'd go for gold personally. All you'd have to do is have them lay that over the top of the white linen. That way all the people who'll be watching you sitting at the table won't have the opportunity to compare your dress to the linen.

It needn't cost very much for the organza if you are just using it for a few select areas. Say the overlay for the whole top table, then for the runners on all the other tables.

I think if you would do a over lay on the white table cloths it would look fine. You can buy organza on ebay for a great price. I would just put a bow on the chairs to kill all the white. I don't think it will look bad even if you didn't. No one is going to sit there and say how tacky is she to have white chairs and she is wearing ivory.
You could do a wine over lay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Wine-Shimmer-Org...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/Crystal-Organza-...QQcmdZViewItem

with gold bows
http://cgi.ebay.com/55-GOLD-MIRROR-O...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/44-GOLD-SHIMMER-...QQcmdZViewItem

With the 44" organza i would cut the fabric in 3 pieces and use 2 yards per box. So every 2 yards you would get 3 bows

I definitely like the shimmery wine and gold table clothes... I was thinking about making gold table runners and just renting the linens... I am not crafty nor have the time enough to make chair covers for all of the chairs though. Thats my main concern is the white chairs.... I think I like the wine table clothes and gold organza around the chair idea... but I am not so sure Joe will go for big bows (I personally would think it would look great!!). Does anyone have any cheap ideas for chairs involving gold organza for the chairs that does not involve bows?? Or I could go for gold tables and wine chairs... either color combination. I just want to hide the white chairs in the least expensive way possible!!!!

I actually agree with Ann that the chairs aren't a big deal because when people sit, they are covered. Maybe just get chair covers for your chair and Joe's, to make them stand out (and not clash with your dress), or for the whole head table.

I definitely like the idea of just having the head table of our chairs covered!! That with gold table clothes (shimmery) would be perfect!! It would be nice to cover all of the chairs, but not really in our budget. I talked to Joe about it and he agreed, but I think is still sold on the idea of white linens and gold runners... but runners would be nice, but it would cheaper and easier on me (no sewing!!) to just pay a little bit more for nicer table covers... Now, as for the napkins... does it really matter or is plain white ok??
We are in a somewhat elegant place, but we are having upscale Thai/ Asian food at a sit-down (cheaper with this chef and Asian cuisine!!). I definitely do not want the whole chinese lantern look... more of a cross between comteporary and elegant... using wine, gold, white (I guess....), but not froo-froo... Neither of us like froo-froo, but of course he is more deadset against it than I am... I can do bows, he cant. Men!!
I am very color illiterate... but you all have that gift!! Thanks so much!!

You wouldn't have to do a bow on the back of the chair you could put a single flower in the middle and make it less of a bow. I'm looking for a pic!

I think the white linen napkins will be just fine. Especially if you use runners instead of full table cloths, because you'll have a little bit of the white showing there.

LJ those are really pretty , I doubt I could have afforded to do that thought. I'd definately grudge the money to make the chairs nicer if I knew it could be spent somewhere it'd give me better value Course if I had an endless budget I'd have had 1,000,000 flowers everywhere!!!

THanks so much for those ideas!! I don't know that doing those with all of my chairs is within my budget, but the second option that only covers part of the chair could be a DIY project... What do you all think about having all the tables with white linens, gold table runners, and then the second option in gold... then the head table with a gold table cloth and then more covering gold chair covers??
I am just terrible at this color thing... I wish I could afford to rent different chairs or covers for everything... but most of our budget is going towards the food, site, and entertainment....

I think it sounds lovely

And I really don't think there is any need to cover the rest of the chairs unless you have a bottomless pit of money to spend on your wedding

BTW, it sounds to me like you are doing just fine with the colours
