Food Budgeting site
A friend pointed this site out to me and I've had a ball on it today. I actually think I can do these things and I wanted to share it with everyone. It's feeding a family of 4 to 6 on either $45 or $70 a week. It's amazing but after I read it I think I'm gonna give it a try.

Wow that is great I am going to be trying to feed 4 adults on a shoestring budget and this totally helped. (I will probably add a bit more meat though) but it is interesting about the beans and the protein

The $70 one has more meat. But even if you just use this as a guideline for side dishes or even just the subs with the Non fat dry milk it still could save aton. I know we go through a gallon of milk a DAY. Talk about ouch on the budget

Holy cow! Don't forget you'll need to counteract all the beans with bean-o! So the money you save is going towards that!

Right, dumb limey question again, but what is a biscut? Over here it is what you'd call a cookie, but she seems to be referring to it as some sort of bread...

Pretty much what it is. People put butter on them, jam, jelly ....some do gravy. Whatever floats your boat!
Here's a basic recipe....many, many variations!

I'm not good at describing things but biscuits are just dough that is baked. They are basically rolls.
When I did a study abroad in New Zealand it took me awhile to figure out that 'biscuits' were actually cookies! (And also that when my friend was talking about a 'torch', she meant a flashlight!)

They look a whole lot like our scones... But they are a bit sweet They've got flour, egg, sugar, butter & milk in them, plus fruit sometimes But english people sometimes have a cheese/savoury version...
ETA: I just looked up a recipe and they are like savoury scones Thanks for the photo, it was a big help

I should have thought of that...yep, they are kind of like round scones. Many of them have a slightly doughy-er consistancy than the scones I had in England and Scotland, though. I LOVE SCONES. I have not found a good place here to get them. I should try baking them myself sometime.
