I am wondering if anyone has some good centerpiece ideas. We are making our own and are on a budget. Any ideas would be greatly welcomed!

We're using candles instead of flowers--much cheaper than a florist. Many ladies here also did their own with either fresh (bulk online) flowers or silk flowers, and I'm sure they'll chime in.
We're using three varying-height cylinders with a single round floating candle in each for each table. Maybe with some greenery; we haven't decided exactly.

you can also reflect the season with your centerpieces: for a Fall wedding you could put some pretty gourds and leaves of different colors together (the leaves can be silk), for example. Try to find something that echoes the location of your ceremony/reception, or the running theme of your relationship -- for a beach wedding you could have sand & seashells. We had a garden wedding and our centerpieces were baskets of fruit, that was a big hit with our guests. Have you decided on the favors yet? Maybe you can tie that in somehow.

That's exactly what we did - we got shallow bowls from Oriental Trader, filled them with sand (took from the beack, so that was free), and arranged shells and bear grass (the closest we could get to dune grass) on top. We also took giant clam shells, wrote table names inside in gold pen and stuck them in the centerpieces.

Hi...this is what I had read in a magazine, and thought it was neat...on each table, you place a peditaled cake tray and on the tray, place your wrapped favors on it (layered) in the form of a cake...looked fairly neat...you had a centerpiece plus a place for all your favors!

Hi again...I was actually trying to remember what a friend of mine did last year at her wedding...she had bought clay planting pots (from the dollar store) and painted them the colours of her wedding. Inside the pot, she placed a chunk of that green florist brick inside the pot...on top of that chunk, there was a small clear glass votive candle holder and a white candle. Around the votive holder, there was one of those round floral candle rings that you can get at the dollar store as well.
A lot might depend on if you have a themed wedding or not...or what time of year your wedding is.
Another idea I saw, was hurricane type lights as center pieces.

We are having an outdoor reception. we are making hurricane candles, (thin wax shells with flowersand herbs in them) and lit votives inside. since the wedding favor is also a votive candle this is no big deal, with a party of 400 we have spent around $350.00 for centerpieces and favors, but we are doing alot of work.

We are using candles with a greenery wrap and those colored stones.
We got them at:

I placed glass goblets on top of mirrors. The goblets were filled with glass stones and a candle. I also put wedding confetti on each mirror.
By each centerpiece was a pack of matches that said "Please help set our love on fire by lighting the candle in your centerpiece" My BM's actually argued (goofing off, of course) over who got to light the candle on the head table! LOL
**Edited to say... we got the goblets at the dollar store for $1 (duh) a piece. We ended up only spending about $50-$75 on 30 centerpieces.

I'm going to use potted ivy plants that I am growing (and trying not to kill by next May

). To add some color and height, I'm going to 3 use purple taper candles on the table. I am so indecisive, I hope my plans don't change before my wedding. What do ya'll think??

Doodlebug, I love your name.
I think your centerpieces sound very pretty. Have you checked with your venue to make sure they allow taper candles? For instance, my site only allows candles enclosed in glass.

Yah, they do. Actually I work there too so I get to see all kind of ideas on how things look in the rooms. My boss is giving me a great deal and I know that everything will run smooth because I know and trust those who will be working it.

I bought the round bowls with stems (kinda like big wine glasses) for like $2 something. We put the flat glass marbles that went with our colors. Then we got floating candles (sometimes you can get packs from the dollar store). Then we scattered rose peddles around it. It was all pretty cheap. I think floating candles are so pretty and it turned out looking very pretty.

I love floating candles too. How long is your reception going to be though? I have seen some kinds that will burn out because water gets through after only an hour. You should try to test them before hand. Also, I have seen glass candle holders that float in Hobby Lobby. They may be having a sale now too. I got taper candle holders for 50 cents each.

Hey Sarah - where did you get your 'stemmed' bowls at for your centerpieces? Do you know what the diameter was? I am renting bubble bowls, but I saw a pic with the stemmed bowls somewhere and I liked those much better!

I'm not sure if they are the ones Sara's using but I saw something like what she described at AC Moore. Actually, what they looked like to me were a bowl glued to a taper candle holder.
