My First/His Second Marriage... Special Class?
I have heard that because this is my FH's second marriage, he and I have to take a special class.
I was wondering if you all knew if there was any truth to this and/or how I would go about finding out. Any Googling/searching just turns up "marriage counseling" as a result, and that is not helping.
I appreciate any input you may have.
Thanks!

I am a little confused. Who would require this? The church? I know a lot of churches require consouling(sp) before you can get married in their church.

I guess it depends on where you are getting married. I'm Catholic, so my church wouldn't sanction it at all (unless the first wedding was annuled, but that is pretty difficult to do). However if I was to get married in a civil service there would be no restriction on the number of times I could be married
So do you think this is a requirement in you state, or is it a church regulation?
BTW Welcome to Pash! When did you get engaged?

I'm sorry, I should've been more specific.
We aren't getting married in a church, but i thought this class might be state-mandated (i live in michigan)
and thanks for the welcome.
Chris and I got engaged on April 28, 2006

Nope, a state cannot mandate anything like that, so don't worry about it. Only a church can mandate a class that couples must take before getting married.

Yea Welcome!!! If you are very worried about it ask the person who is going to marry you. They would know what documents and papers and classes (if any) are required.

Wembly and I both found pastors to do our pre-marital counseling using http://www.lifeinnovations.com
It isn't a requirement by the state, but some pastors and/or churches may require it.
It was my 1st wedding and his 2nd. We choose to have a religious ceremony and found the pre-marital counseling to be a good tool to refocusing on US during all the wedding chaos.
Welcome to Pash!!!

From a Michigan County website: http://courts.co.calhoun.mi.us/book0...%20Counseling:
Premarital Counseling: Premarital counseling is not required in Michigan, but family planning is available in every county. The State Department of Public Health, and each local department of health, is required to publicize the places where family planning services are available.

You guys are the best! Thanks for all the information... I really appreciate it.
So anyways, as far as plans...
Chris and I are actually pretty lucky. Since this is his second time, we decided that nothing in this wedding can be the same as the last (which is harder than it seems). Part of this is that we are going to pay for this wedding 100%. We've had so many things/services donated to us, it's unbelievable! His co-worker is a professional DJ, my stepmom's coworker is a professional photographer and is going to do all of our photography AND videography for $800.00. Our guest list is approx 200 people.
We are having the wedding at my Aunt's house. She has this BEAUTIFUL garden and we're taking full advantage of it. Our colors are lavender and dark lilac, which works great since she redid the garden this fall so that all the flowers are in coordinating shades!
A dear friend of mine is a reverend and will be marrying the two of us. I feel this gives the wedding personlization. Who better to marry me off than someone that has known and loved me for years?
Hmmm.... lets see.
I put the down payment on my dress (the ever popular 9V8820 David's Bridal ensemble... LOVE IT).
That's about all i can come up with for the moment. I get kind of overwhelmed with this whole thing!
Thanks again for the info... and all the welcomes!

Hi Anna, welcome to Pash and congrats! Are you going to use lilacs as your flower too? I love lilacs, one of my favorites. Can't wait to hear more.

Hi Anna! Welcome to Pash! It's great that you have so many "connections." It will certainly help keep your costs down!
Oh, and I love lilacs too. They have the best scent!

thank you, thank you and thank you... you guys are like one big welcome wagon!
I was thinking of using lilacs, (they are one of my favorites too, i had a big lilac bush outside my bedroom window growing up) but i think it's a little late in the season for them. I have to do some more investigating, i think.

I don't know that "you have to" I guess it all depends on where and by whom you get marries...Eg; Church,home,pastor,friend,grandparent....
Dave and I WANT to take a pre-marital course, I think it's a great idea in getting to know one another on a more spiritual basis...Were Christian, I don't know if this makes sense...
I didn't help much!!! Sorry

I did too! My hubby and I wanted to buy a couple bushes for outside our new home, but it was too late to plant them properly before Fall hit.
Our next door neighbor has a big ol' tree next to their house, where I can sneak out and grab a bunch and they can't see me!
