Hi!
Just wondering if anyone has any inexpensive ideas on how to decorate the reception banquet room. My room is a private, downstairs one in a restaurant. I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to decorate the stairs down, as well as the room itself. I thought of tulle or streamers on the bannister, but tulle might be a bit expensive, and I don't know if streamers would look ok. By the way, my theme is daisies.
Thanks very much!

Hi Holly, tulle is really not that expensive, you can always find some pretty good deals at fabric stores. If you have eny white xmas lights you canuse those as well with the tulle. It will give the atmosphere a more romantic feel. Candles are always good but not recomended if there will be children around. Flowers, balloons. Here's one thing that I'm doing for my tables, The tables at our location are solid oak with a nice high gloss , so instead of covering them up, we will use rose petals as runners on our tables. Buy about a dozen roses and take out the petals keep them in baggies until your ready to decorate. It's really beautiful

I just saw some tulle at JoAnn Etc. (I don't know if they are in your area) for 69 cents a yard. And I have often found white Christmas lights at dollar stores. I don't know if they would be available right now, but a lot of stores still have Christmas inventory at deep clearance discounts.

Thanks, both of you! I will look into tulle prices and see if Xmas lights are still around. I hope tulle is just as cheap where I live (I'm a Canadian).
Thanks again!

I would use tulle and white Christmas lights to decorate the railing on the staircase. If I were you, I'd steer clear of streamers because they will make the room look like a child's birthday party.
Also, you might want to rent a pretty wooden arch to put over the cake table. You can decorate the arch with more white Christmas lights and some floral garlands.

Thanks!
I wasn't too sure about the streamers before, but I have decided to nix the idea now. I'll look into something for the cake table, too. That's a great tip!

I live in Colorado and am getting married in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
We are using Luminarias as the decorations for part of it. It is a paper lunch bag with sand in the bottom and a votive or tea light in it. We are cutting designs out of the bag and we did find them in white. If you have a lot of kids, maybe put them up somewhere.
Since it is NM style we are also having pinatas for the kids. When the parents heard about the pinata, they wanted on too. So we now have four pinatas. Silly I know, but it is festive.

For a short time I worked at Michael's Arts & Crafts. If they have them in Canada, you should make a trip to one! They have a department of wedding supplies and all types of fake flowers, beautiful ribbons, fake petals (for the flower girl to drop, I suppose, but you could use them for decor too), tulle (it may be more expensive than other places), lights (I believe they probably carry them year-round), etc, etc, etc. They also carry stuff like tiaras, embellishments for the veil and dresses, candies, cake decor, the list goes on and on. Also, Michael's is a big carrier of scrapbooking supplies (which go on sale all the time!!!), so you might want to take a look at all that stuff, too. Even if you're not interested in putting together a scrapbook, they also sale background paper for the books. It comes in all sorts of patterns, prints, colors, etc., and you could use it for a number of purposes. I saw an article in Better Homes & Gardens Weddings magazine where they had made really cute decorations with what looked like that type of paper. The paper goes on sale quite often and the sale price makes a huge difference, so keep an eye out. (They advertise in newspapers a lot.) Don't be afraid to be creative--think about ways you could use something in a manner other than that for which it most commonly used. It's easy once you get into it. Get some wedding/bridal magazines (the one I saw by Better Homes & Gardens had some really cute ideas), and even some home decor magazines may have ideas you could modify for a wedding. I hope this helps you! Good luck!!!

Hi Holly, if your looking for candles try IKEA. you can get a box of 50 for 9.99$ and the candles last for 6 hours. I'm really into candles so I buy in bulk. I've seen them in blue, white red, green and cream.
