different hues
Hello to all. Im new here.My mom referred me to this site, she said it looked great, I think she was right!Well ok Im getting married April 14,2007. The colors I have chosen are ivory, lavendar, and sage.My question is since almost every store and place has different renditions of these colors (except the ivory) do you think i could use different hues of the lavender and sage. My worry is the flowers, favors, ribbons, dress accent colors arent all going to perfectly match.OK?? Im apologize if this is a silly question but this is my first time having to deal with any of this.I havent even helped a friend before So me planning my own wedding its kind of overwhelming at times with a million questions For any of your future input and if I forget to at the time Thanks to all.

We love to Help!!!
Welcome!!
I think that it is up to you what you want. Me personally I am a little bit anal about somethings and I would get a sample of each color that I want. And see how my other choices go with it.
I cant wait to hear more details!!

First off Welcome to pash!!! I am using pink and green as my wedding colours and I am using all different shades. I would say go for it as long as they compliment each other

Welcome -- I'm doing ivory and red (since our wedding is the week of Valentine's), but the sage and lavender were my second choice. I love that color combination! Can't wait to hear all the details.

Lavedar & sage were my second choice too (now using sage & some shade of gold yet to be determined)!
I would also suggest you get samples of the different products you want to use. I don't think they need to match, but you want to ensure they compliment each other. I don't think it's so imperitive for the colors to match the dresses as to be coordinated at the tables - like the flowers with the table cloths. You may find it's easiest to just use one color for each "item" - lavendar flowers with ivory ribbons on white table cloths, sage ribbons on the favors, etc.

Welcome to Pash!
My first recommendation would be to go to either a big fabric store near you & get some samples of the colours you like, or if that isn't possible, go to your local hardware store & get some tiny paint pots... Mess about until you've got the colour you want... Now attach the scraps of fabric to a little piece of card, or paint a little card with your chosen colours & keep it in your purse. That way every time you're out & you see something that is interesting you will be able to tell quickly if the colour will tone in with your choices
They don't have to be identical, but if they aren't going to be the same then I'd go for a few shades of the same colour so that it looks deliberate rather than accidental!
BTW I had sage too, but just with black

I think the colors look gorgeous together!!
I am pretty anal too so I would hate if they didn't match (personally), so I would probably carry around swatches of fabric as Ann suggested or in my case, I carried around swatches of ribbon.

Whether your colors match perfectly or merely complement depends on the look you are trying to achieve, and also on where the color(s) will be used.
The specific areas of concern you mentioned are the flowers, favors, ribbons, and dress accent colors. What will be the most predominant -- meaning which place(s) will the chosen colors be noticed? Most likely the dress accent colors. Get color swatches for that and work from there. Always work from color swatches, NEVER just color names. You hit it on the head when you said "different hues."
Flowers that will be worn or carried will probably be the next most noticed (for the ceremony), as will any floral decor at both the ceremony and reception. Unless you're going for a monochromatic color scheme, using colors in different shades here will really add depth to the arrangements, making them more appealing, (where colors that "match" tend to fade into each other and into the background if exactly the same color).
Ribbons -- depends on the width, where it will be used, and again, how predominant it will really be. (Will your guests notice the forest or the trees?) Pretty much the same for favors.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to Pash!!!
I'de say if you are OK with it, you can use differnt shades, just make sure they compliment each other and look good as a whole.
Good luck with your wedding, I can't wait to hear more about it.
Have you introduced yourself on the Bridal Journals page yet. We would love to hear your story!!!
