The centerpieces look great!!! I can't see the candle all that well from the angle of the photo though.
As for a red fruit....I was thinking strawberries (whole) or maybe even cranberries would be good. They aren't citrus-y like the rest, but they might work. Or you could do Red Delicious apples, and cut them in slices just like the limes (instead of normal apple slices).

I think cherries or cranberries will look great! Might want to try it out first to make sure none of them change the color of the water. It's funny cause I just was watching food TV and saw a picture of those jars filled with cranberries and candle on top and it looked great.

I think cherries or cranberries. They are small in size to add just a punch of color without distraction and I think they'll hold up better than strawberries... would have to do a test run to see

I like it! As for the fall wedding, it's yours go with what you want. Now for the red I was going to say cranberries or strawberries as well. You might try some fruit fresh to keep the fruit from changing color. I think it will keep it from changing the water too. I'm not sure but I use it on the boys fruit when I slice it for lunches...it keeps them from turning black and icky.

I agree that cranberries would be a nice addition!! They may be cheaper than cherries (at least they are where I live).

Working at bath and body works, we do alot of decorations in vases. We've done whole oranges, cherries, lavender seeds, potpouri etc, and they all look wonderful. What my point is, I was going to suggest maybe buying plastic fruit? That way you can set it up and not have to worry about anything going bad etc

I would think you could look at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Or maybe even online. I Love how they look!!! Cranberrys will loo great for red, IMO. I think I would go with the fresh fruit though. Unless you can find a great deal on plastic fruit. I just think fresh fruit might save some $

Wouldn't plastic fruit float in the water? I think cranberries would be great. It would be much easier to find cranberries than cherries in the fall and cranberries just scream "FALL!" to me.
Oh, and I think the centerpieces look fantastic!

Have you thought about ruby red grapefruit? You'd have to peel them but the insides are deep pinkish-red?

My first thought (regarding red fruit) was Marichino (sp?) cherries.
However, the fruits you mentioned seem a bit summery. For a fall wedding, I'd go with cranberries and green apples.

Jayme,
I just wanted to tell you that they had a big dinner here at the college last night and they had glass vases with....CRANBERRIES in them. Clear marbles and cranberries. They look amazing. They really pop and they didn't turn the water colors. I'll try to see if I can get a pic of them. They brought one out to my desk and I just can't get over how great these look. I may do this for Christmas dinner.

I may have to do this too for our holiday party!!! I've been thinking of doing lots of candles but I have a ton of cylinders left over from the wedding that I could fill with cranberries and put a floating candle on the top.
