Engement picture questions
As mentioned in my other thread we are doing our engagement pictures tomorrow,a nd I am NOE coming up with my I should have thought about that before questions.
1.) I keep seeing photos of the couples wearing matching outfits for the shots. Is that expected, or can we just dress nice, but not wear the same outfit? I'm sure it is my call, but I just want it to look good.
2.) Is black OK? I have a couple outfits that are all black that I look really good in, Ian looks really good in black as well. I know it is sometimes seen as a mourning color, or gothic color, but the outfits we would be wearing don't reflect either of those. I can see balck as being classy as well, and since it is in the park, and there is a lot of color going on around us, it might not look to bad. Do you think that black would be OK for engagement pics?
Ace will be our little splash of color in the pics he is in.
3.) My mom wants me to e-mail her some pictures of ideas I have for poses, so now I am on the mad dash to find pictures of other peoples engagement photos. Oh so fun!!!
For those of you who had your pictures done professionally and really like your results, if your photographer has a web sight, can you post/ PM me the link so I can look around, or post/PM me copies of your pictures if you don't mind me sending a copy to my mom.
For those of you who might have had a friend take your pictues how did you figure out which poses to use?
So far I have been using search engines, and looking under images.

1. I agree with you, it's better if you don't match. However, you should coordinate. Wearing the same or complimentary colors is good. You may also want to bring a second outfit to wear for more variety in your album.
2. Black is OK, but earth tones are best. White & bright colors draw attention. Black may make you look a little pale, depending on your complexion.
3. My husband is a wedding & portrait photographer but he doesn't have a website. All the picture files we have are all high res. & too big for me to e-mail to you. But basically, the idea is for the picture to show how much in love you are, what a cute couple you make, what a wonderful future you have ahead of you, & of course show off that new rock! Act like you're at the park on a date & a photographer isn't following you around- hug, cuddle, kiss, lean on each other, walk arm & arm, lay in the grass, feed the ducks, hold hands, play footsie, whisper in each other's ear, have him carry you, play peek a boo around a tree, whatever you feel like. The more natural & comfortable you are, the better!
Do a combo of walking, sitting, standing, & laying. Vary your scenery- since you're in a park go to an overlook, a pond, a bench, a stone wall, a field, trees, flowers, bridge, trail... Vary where you are facing- don't just look at the camera, look at each other, look off in different directions, off in the same direction, only one person looking at the camera, & try putting your chin down a little & looking up with just your eyes (thins your face). Try different angles- some with the camera looking down on you is fun (but shots from below add double chins), from behind you, beside you, & try tilting the camera for added interest, try close-ups like just your ring when holding hands, & try ones that show you as a small part in a landscape. Most importantly, have fun!!!

Would solids be best, or are patterns / stripes OK?
I'm thinking solids would look better.
Are Reds / Pinks / Corals OK? Those are pretty much the only other color I wear other thank black
And would those colors look OK with balck pants, instead of all black?

Never mind my last post. I just talked to my mom and she wants us to wear all black because she wants to work with some black and white shots, and she thinks it will look better. So I guess we will wear black, and just take along one extra shirt each to change into if she wants to do some color shots where extra color is needed.

CMK gave really good advice, but I have one more thing to add.
Don't wear anything too trendy, since it will be out of style in a few years for sure. You don't want to look back and laugh at how idiotic you look in the latest trends.

Engagement Pictures
I think the best engagement pictures are those that were just taken at other occasions. Pumpkin picking or Ice Skating or whatever it is you guys do together. After all it is those moments that have brought you two together to this point in your lives together
