Purples and white? Not enough?
Ever since I started planning, I've known that I want to incorporate some shade of purple in my color scheme. I think it's a versatile color, since you can have everything from a pale lilac to a deep royal purple, and it has the added bonus of being my fiance's favorite color! So at this point, the wedding will be in an old New England church, with the reception in an antiques-filled, Victorian-era house. I'm liking the idea of having two or three shades of lavender, with white as the only other color. I thought it would be nice to have my two bridesmaids in a light shade, and then my maid of honor in a slightly darker lavender.
Anyway, I've had several people say they think it might not be enough. My mother thinks I should introduce some sort of accent color, and I'm starting to think she may be right. One idea that came up was having each of my attendants in a different pastel color--perhaps one a sea green, another sky blue, and keeping lavender for the MOH. I'm a bit cautious only because I do not want my color scheme to look like an Easter egg. Don't get me wrong, I like pastels...I just don't want it to get predictable, and I love the old-fashioned, nostalgic feeling that lavender gives me. Also, the style I'm most seriously considering for bridesmaids' dresses (as well as my own) is a very Jane Austen, Regency-inspired one, if that helps at all.
So I'm just not sure. Stick with the original purple-and-white scheme? Introduce a single accent color, to bring it to purple, white and _____? Two more colors? One thing I definitely don't like is the whole trend to using lots of light greens in flower arrangements, so I wouldn't want to introduce too much of that. But that's a whole other question, and I've already blathered on enough for one thread...

If you have different shades of purple, you do have an accent color - purple. I think lavender and dark purple would be beautiful for the BM and MOH. Stick to your guns babe. I think it would be gorgeous.

I really like just purple and white it seems classic and very elegant plus with so many different shades of purple I think that would be enough

I like the idea of lavendar and dark purple... I don't think it will look as "washed out" as your mother thinks. You will still have green in the bouquets and the colors of everything else around you, you don't need to dress up the bridesmaids in the colors of the rainbow for it to be colorful.
So I agree, stick to your guns. The lavendar/purple scheme will also go much better with your regency theme, too.

I think the two or three different shades of purple, along with white will be wonderful! The trend seems to be using different shades of one color. I think your colors are great -- you'll find a lot out there to go with them.

I recently went to a wedding where the colors were lavender and white with no accent color and it looked beautiful. The bridesmaid dresses and MOH dress were all the same color (lavender satin with a white sash around their waist) with an A-line skirt and the MOH had the same but her skirt was the poufy "scrunched up" kind and everything looked just fine.
The brides bouquet was a dark almost wine-purple (not sure what that color is called) so that was sort of an accent color. Other than that, there were no other colors. I'll try to post a pic up tonight. I dont have it on this computer

I think if you aboslutely want an accent color, then choose dark purple. I dont think that one is neccessary. I think that dark purple will add to the theme you are looking for!

I think just the two colours would be great. I always thought that most people only chose two colours, as a lot of people have been saying that I have too many colours myself (three). As the other girls said though, if you do want an accent, dark purple would be beautiful.

I think it would be really pretty with out an additional accent color. Purple is my faverate color though, so I'm not the best judge here.
I would say though if you decided to go with an accent color, I would do something along the lines of maybe champaigne, ivory, or silver. Something to accent the purple you are using, but not take attention away from it.

I agree--one, two, or three shades of purple throughout with white and/or silver would look beautiful. Plus, both lighter, "dusty lavender" and deeper purples are very Victorian and would be great with the setting and the dress styles, I think.

I think one or two shades of purple and white will look GORGEOUS!!! I can picture it in my head, and I think it will look lovely.
I agree with the other ladies....stick to your guns and your original plan!!! It sounds great.

I say it's your wedding, if you want to just use the 2 shades of Lavender then do it. My wedding colors happen to be purple, white and black. I on the other hand, am going with the deep end of the spectrum.

I'd go for the more simple & elegant style of colors. I think you are wise in your choice.
