Table Names/numbers
What did you all do for your table names or numbers?
As most of you alredy know our colour are black & ivory, I did think of having different blacks for the table names but couldn't think of enough shades
Anyway, just saw Samsipti's venue & in one of the table setiing pics they had what I think was New York landmarks as the table names, do you think that'd work? We're going to NY for our honeymoon (I've always wanted to go!) I figured it'd let those that don't know where we're going know coz they'd ask 'why did they name their tables after NY buildings?' and those who do know can tell them...
I'm totally over thinking this aren't I???

We did table names and our guests are still talking about it...
I had 8x10 black frames on each table with the name enlarged, and underneath, a little story about the place.
The head table was named for the place we got engaged.
We had three family tables, the one for parents & grandparents were named for our hometowns. (His family sat at my hometown and read about where I grew up, and vice/versa).
The other locations were places we had been, and there was a story for each of them as well. Example - one year we went to Montreal with a group of friends for New Years Eve. I wrote about that, and sat the people at the table who were with us that year.

We named our tables after Long Island beaches.

I didn't have table names. We had a buffet with open seating. But, I think the NY landmarks would work well for your NY honeymoon.
And, Heather, that is sych a great way to do it. I love how you grouped the guests with stories they particularly would enjoy.

I didn't have table names/numbers either. But, we still had a sit down dinner. When the guests walked in, there was a table with everyone's name (well... Mr John Smith and family or something like that). Under each name was a stack of cards, each a different color with either Beef, Chicken, or Manicotti printed on it. The guests sat where they wanted and then put the card in front of them. The wait staff knew what each person ordered from the card and didn't have to bother them.
We did it this way becaue we pretty much had a family reunion (it was the largest family get-together since my Grandma's funeral when I was 6!). We didn't want to "make" anyone sit together. We wanted the family to feel free to sit with whoever they wanted to.
It worked nicely.

We ended up just using table numbers after all at our wedding. But my sister and her husband did something really cool. They travel a lot, so I made them table cards on some old world map looking paper with a country name (Italy, Greece, Russia, Egypt etc) and an outline map of the country, and we put together small photo albums of pictured they had taken from their vacation in that area. It was really cool, and it got the guests mingling because they all wanted to see the pictures at the other tables.

We just used plain old numbers that the hotel supplied. Nothing special there. I just wanted to keep in nice and easy for myself. We debated doing something cool like Famous Romance Movies or something, but then decided against it.

We used the names of famous couples in history (real history or TV history). The head table was "Rhett and Scarlett" because I'm a huge GWTH fan. We had others, like "Fred and Wilma" (kid table), "Antony and Cleopatra," "Homer and Marge" (teenager table), etc.

I think the NY buildings idea is great! I would probably go with that.

Well, our other possibilities were either Scottish Lochs or Scottish Islands...
So it'd be: Loch Lomond, Loch Rannoch, Loch Earn, Loch Tarbot, Loch Morar, Loch Awe, Loch Etive. The poblem with this one is that a few of my friends were brought up in the same tiny area as me & all our streets are named after these so they mioght think I'm just naming the tables after our wee town! (BTW it isn't a very nice area!)
Or
Shetland, Orkney, Islay, Barra, Arran, Skye, Lewis, Jura. I quite like this idea too...

Where's Loch Ness?
Our tables are going to be named after sections of the newspaper (editorial, comics, entertainment etc) as we're both journalists.

All these ideas are so great! You girls are so creative...I think Tom and I will just have numbers. None of our special places are very romantic...
