Default Is this wacko

Hello ladies,

I am a newbie and very excited that I found this forum. I was wondering if my wanting to wear a red wedding gown was wacko.... I found this one http://thebridalshop.com/maggiesottero/J208.htm that i am totally in love with. I was thinking about my BM wearing either Black or Platinum dresses. What do you ladies think? Thanks in advance

It's a beautiful dress. I wouldn't be comfortable being married in a red dress, but in some cultures red is traditional, and you aren't the first person I know of to want to wear one (and I mean people for whom the color is not traditional). I guess only you can decide if such a nontraditional color is okay for you--would your parents, or his parents, or grandparents, be shocked/dismayed/offended/horrified? Does their reaction matter to you? What would your FH think (hopefully his opinion matters somewhat to you, at least ). My FH would have been completely against this, STRENOUSLY, but he doesn't like red at all. His one request as far as color was that my maids not wear red. My mother would also have been upset, which I wouldn't have wanted, even if I'd been willing to wear a red dress. So it wouldn't have been the right choice for me.

But if you love it and your loved ones would either approve (whether immediately, eventually, or grudgingly) or it doesn't matter if they don't, in and of itself a red wedding dress is NOT wacko. I think either black or platinum would be striking with it; if you go with black for the maids' dresses though I think red and black alone can sometimes be too harsh or too strong, so maybe bring in some cream or platinum or silver accents.

And welcome to Pash!

Also, Would it be silly for my groom to wear a red tie/vest if his GM have on platinum tie/vest? My red dress is a secret to EVERYONE and no one will know until I walked down the aisle. Thanks

Not silly to have the groom's and GMs' vests different colors. But FYI, unless you want them to, you don't have to match vests to dresses. My FH wore a cream vest and tie, and his GMs wore black. Both cream and black were a jacquard pattern, not solid, but tone-on-tone. My girls wore hunter green, but neither my husband nor I liked the idea of hunter green vests on the men.

Anyway, go with the colors you want!

Definitely be prepared for comments about your dress if you wear red with absolutely no warning to anyone, btw.

Go for it!

I deal with a local wedding shop, the owner makes buying trips to Europe twice a year and she tells me that North American brides are behind the times in that the majority of the brides there are wearing any colour but white.

"Red wedding gowns — practically a staple in Europe for the last ten years — are making waves on the American scene as well. And for those who love the idea but aren't ready for full-throttle red, there's the red and white gown, maybe with a dramatic red cape or silk pashmina."

My friend's son was married in france and his bride wore a stunning red gown. The photos were absolutely amazing. Sorry, I looked for the link to his online album but I can't find it.

If red is your colour and you feel comfortable "stepping outside of the box" then I say go for it.

This is my daughter ..... it's a prom and not a wedding but you get the idea. Red & platimum would look beautiful.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate it. Now i have bigger issues lol.... Crystal you inspire me.... And I have an idea from you. I was worried about my daughter's hair that is very soft and will not stay up in a pony tail. So now after seeing your pictures, i am going with the way your little flower girls had there hair. Might even be able to do that myself. The little tiarra was cute. Thanks alot my new friends...

I think the dress is stunning, and if I had seen it before my wedding, I may have considered it too. Red was one of my colors but it was very subtle... Go for it!

Well Crystal, FH is waiting on me to set the date. I was having issue due to colors.... Some say that you shouldn't do Red in the summer, so I was thinking February 24,2007 which is my birthday. But, I really want to get married when its warmer.. The other date is May 4, 2007. This site has really help me with the color/months thing. Besides, I will be the only one in red and thats my little secret. Now, how do I keep everyone else from knowing? Should I tell my Matron and Maid of Honor? Or surprise them too?

I think you should tell them. They're going to want to see the dress, and I think keeping them in the dark would be a bit insulting. Personally I would be really upset if I was a MOH and the bride refused to show me the dress.

Im pretty sure everyone is assuming that your dress will be white, unless you hint to them that its no where near white/ivory/champagne
I think you should tell your MOH's

Beautiful dress by the way

Thanks for the advice ladies. I value your opinions. I just know that my Matron of Honor may tell her mom. My maid of honor can keep a secret. I am just worried that the matron of honor will tell her mom or brother. It's complicated.
My childs father and my Matron of Honor are brother and sister. Just worried that she will tell her mom who she keep no secrets from. If she does that, a few MORE people will find out. But I guess that I will just have to trust her on this one and beg for her silence.

Thanks again ladies

I am all about breaking the rule (rebel at heart), so if you are really in love for it, go for it. Red is my fav color, and I love your dress!! However, you may want to think about whether you will regret having worn it years from now when you are looking back at your pictures. Is this a phase or a trend that you are going through, and will that change, kinda like a tatoo, something that you regret later, or do you feel confident that you will always be happy that this is what you wore on your big day?? Just something to think about...

I am definitely confident about it. And I won't regret it. I want my wedding to be anything but the norm. Always been a risk-taker. I just want this day to be prefect.

That dress is beautiful. I considered wearing a different color and in the end opt'd for ivory. But I'm all for making a wedding unique and about YOU. Welcome to Pash

The dress is beautiful! I wanted to go with something other than white but DH and MIL would have FREAKED!!! I say go for it! It's your day to do with what you want! If you don't want the bridesmaids to see it, then don't let them see it! But if you do and the word gets out, everyone will think they are just pulling a fast one and no one will suspect that it's really the truth until they see you walk down the isle!

Ok ladies, another issue. I dont know how i really feel about platinum. its just a color that goes with everything. And i only selected that color because of my red dress. So what are my other alternative besides platinum or black? What does good with red?

I know that your maids and matron are going to be asking to see the dress and since you are a risk taker, I dont think you should show them if you are worried about everyone else knowing. I would just say something along the lines of that you want to suprise everyone with your dress. I love the suprise idea! RED will SHOCK them!!

I think that Gold might look nice because the dress looked a little more of a blue purple toned red and it compliment the dress. But if you are planning on making your color scheme based on your dress then I would call the dress maker and ask for a swatch of the color of red that you are getting so then you can keep it with you and see what you like best that matches. Black will always look great. But gold and platinum mught not be a good combination. What about a khaki like color?

I love the dress. I was thinking of doing that as well, but i wossed out and went with a ivory dress with red accents instead (the pictures show the dress in white, not ivory).

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...a1fc843a-1.jpg

In terms of colors that look good with red, I am going with champaige. But I think pink (I don't really like pink), silver, black, brown, or navy would look good. I think platimum would look good.

I would avoid green or bright blue, unless you waant your colors to represent the christmas or indapendance day looks.
