Default meeting with officiant

About how long before the wedding did everyone meet with your officiant to discuss what you want to include in the ceremony as far as vows and all that?

Also, we are having someone registered in Kentucky to do our Tennessee wedding. Does anyone know where I would find out if I need to find someone registered in Tennessee to attend our wedding as well to make it 'official'? I don't know anything about this stuff.

Sorry I'm no help with the second portion of your question, but Justin and I met with the pastor a month before, 2 weeks before and the night before for rehearsal.

1. If this is a religious ceremony, check any requirements on pre-marital couseling. We were required to have 6-10 meetings with our officiant, about once a month, before the wedding, so obviously we met with him sooner. Planning the service was part of that process. If you don't have that sort of requirement, I would say a month or two before hand to make sure you have time to consider various options for the ceremony, readings, etc. Keep in mind any time concerns if you want to print a program that details the ceremony. We printed ours ourselves, but if you have a professional place do them they often take a while.

2. Your officiant must be legally allowed to perform a wedding in the state chosen. Most officiants should know how to go about this process--it's pretty much filing paperwork with the appropriate state. If your officiant doesn't know, I've seen it online and in books (I'm not in a position right now where I can look it up, unfortunately)--ask your local librarian for assistance, or your town hall.

We meet with our pastor about 3 months out, then again about 2 months out and talked with him on several occasions. in the meantime, and then of course the night before at rehearsal.

I would contact the state where you will be getting married (or county??) and ask them what the rules are. At that time also find out what you need to do for your end of the paper work too, like the license......
