My Future Sister in Law is going to read a poem at our wedding. I just am not able to find one. I am sure I could write one or she could write one, but I would just rather find something I like. Any suggestions?

i love the poem called a poem of friendship by nikki giovanni... (ex line: i do not love you b/cs of the love we make, but the love we have... or something like that, but it is beautiful, not very long, tho)
and i also LOVE LOVE LOVE pablo neruda's poetry...his love sonnets are gorgeous. (they are in spanish w/ english translations widely available on the web or in his collections). also, if you are religious and want something along those lines, cs lewis has a book of poetry about love, and while a bit stuffier sounding (very formal patterns) they are also nice. you could also have read aloud instead of sung your favorite love song lyrics that apply to you guys.

they have some of Neruda's beautiful love poems (my favorite is Sonnet XVII), plus plenty from other poets & writers... at the very least a big sigh will collect in your chest!!!
clairon, I'm very impressed that you know Neruda's writing, I knew I liked you!

Try lovingyou.com and lovepoetry.com, they have a huge love poem and love quote library. They're not by a specific author, just different poems people submitted.

Here is one of them that we are using:
Sonnet XVII
By Pablo Neruda
I don't love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that doesn't bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I know no other way of loving
but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.
Hope this helps. I found it on Weddingchannel.com.

CATHOLIC ceremony ... so we're limited to choosing from the the readings that they give us. Good luck. All of the suggestions were great!

You know I am getting married in a catholic church as well, and I am not limited on what I can or cannot have....double check with the priest on that.

Also, there is another on here (sorry, I forgot who it was!) who is using a reading from the Velveteen rabbit. I don't have a copy here at the office, but if you look on here, or someone else has it, it's great. We may even use that as well. I read it to my fH, and he loved it! There's another that I was hoping to use (is 3 too many?) that I'll post later. It is also at home. Oh wait, I just found it:
The Promise
by Eileen Rafter
The sun danced on the snow with a sparkling smile,
As two lovers sat quietly, alone for a while.
Then he turned and said, with a casual air
(Though he blushed from his chin to the tips of his hair),
"I think I might like to get married to you"
"Well then, she said, "Well there's a thought,
But what if we can't promise to be all that we ought,
If I'm late yet again, when we plan to go out.
For I know I can't promise, I'll learn to ignore
Dirty socks and damp towels strewn all over the floor.
So if we can't vow to be all that we should
I'm not sure what to do, though the idea's quite good".
But he gently smiled and tilted his head
Till his lips met her ear and softly he said
"I promise, to weave my dreams into your own,
That wherever you breathe will be my hearts home.
I promise, that whether with rags or with gold I am blessed
Your smile is the jewel I will treasure the best.
Do you think then, my love, we should marry - do you?"
"Yes" she said smiling "I do".
That one got tears in my eyes the first few times I read it!

Sorry, just realized you wanted a poem and that last one was a reading. Well, maybe someone else will like it!
